Rothschild & Co
Investment Research Support Analyst

Job Description
- Req#: JR011132
- Long-term thinking creates greater value. A long-term investment horizon allows us to ignore short-term noise and focus on what really matters. Instead of chasing short-term returns, we act and think like business owners and build active partnerships with the companies and funds that we invest in.
- Investors need to protect themselves against inflation in order to preserve and grow wealth in real terms. Even modest levels of inflation erode the real value of capital over time. Our investment objective is to outpace inflation. We do this by investing in high quality companies with pricing power and high barriers to entry.
- Sustainability is a fundamental investment issue. Sustainability factors (environmental, social and governance – or ‘ESG’ factors) cannot be separated from economic factors; they are an inherent part of the long-term risks and opportunities for any company. Sustainability analysis is explicitly integrated into our investment process. As long-term investors, we want to own high-quality businesses that have resilient business models and sustainable business practices.
- Navigating market downturns well is a crucial part of the journey. We seek assets that provide genuine protection during periods of market stress. This allows us to smooth the journey for our clients. Our in-depth research on companies means that we invest with conviction while minimising the risk of permanent capital loss. Taken together, we build sensibly diversified portfolios, combining investments in high-quality companies with assets that provide insurance in times of turbulence.
- Manage the relationships with third-party research and market data vendors including contract management (in conjunction with the WMUK Vendor Manager), cost oversight and service assessment
- Act as the primary point of contact for corporate access and expert network providers in support of the equity research process
- Provide portfolio managers and equity research analysts with relevant company and industry transcripts/reports through usage of our research platforms
- Help to continue to build out internal corporate access capabilities. Support the portfolio managers and equity research team in the planning and coordination of research field visits, including liaison with Investor Relations teams at third-party companies. Seek opportunities to improve efficiencies in process and strengthen relationships with third party companies.
- Support the Equity Research team and portfolio managers in building out a proprietary network of experts – gathering contacts (via LinkedIn, for instance) and making introductions
- Work with the front office to maintain an up-to-date record of client expertise
- Undertake data gathering tasks in support of the Equity Research team and portfolio managers. Seek opportunities to increase the efficiency of data gathering, manipulation and storage processes
- Assist in creating presentations for the Equity Research team for use at internal, and potential external, meetings
- Manage small initiatives within the Investment Team. This may include collation and documentation of requirements, coordinating with other WM UK teams, tracking actions and providing updates to management
- Ad-hoc tasks which could include minute taking at senior meetings, following up on actions assigned to different stakeholders, data analysis etc.
- Possess a flexible attitude and a willingness to be involved in a variety of tasks and initiatives
- Strong organisational skills, ability to multi-task and maintain exceptional attention to detail even when working under pressure
- Reliable, conscientious and professional with high level of professional integrity
- Capable of problem-solving and acting independently but able to work in a team whenever required
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external parties
- Experience managing data sets using Microsoft Excel and active interest in process automation
- Very strong IT skills to include advanced Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Bloomberg would be an asset
- Experience of wealth / asset management products / propositions and channels, either through working in the sector or through a consulting practice and a demonstrable interest in portfolio management and an understanding of fundamental research concepts would be seen as beneficial.
