      Job Description

      The Allstate Corporation (NYSE: ALL) is the nation's largest publicly held personal lines insurer, serving approximately 16 million households through its Allstate, Encompass, Esurance, and Answer Financial brand names and Allstate Financial business segment. Within The Allstate Corporation, Allstate Investments manages a portfolio of nearly $60 billion in assets across public and private groups and is supported by 300+ team members across risk and return management, operations, finance, technology, legal, and compliance.

      Allstate is one of the oldest and most established institutional investors of private capital, with Private Equity being a core component of the Allstate portfolio. As part of the larger Performance-Based group comprised of asset classes such as Real Estate, Infrastructure, Opportunistic, and Climate investing, the Private Equity group is highly experienced in fund and direct investing across various sectors and geographies.

      The Private Assets Summer Intern will spend a majority of the time supporting the Private Equity team; however, it would be expected that the candidate has the opportunity to rotate between various groups in the Performance-Based team. The candidate will participate in investment committee meetings, portfolio review sessions, deal discussions, and special projects within the Private Assets group. This is a hybrid internship: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in our downtown River Point office collaborating with the team in person. Wednesday and Friday will be remote.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Portfolio Monitoring Meeting
        • Assist with creating the monitoring file, distributing to the team, helping lead the meeting, taking notes, and creating the summary file deliverable to senior managers
      • Investment Monitoring Reports
        • Participate in the formal portfolio valuation and performance review process conducted quarterly
        • Assist in creating the portfolio monitoring coverage list and tracking completion
      • Performance by Manager Analysis
        • Analysis conducted monthly to learn about various valuation drivers, variance analysis, and to review quarterly statements from General Partners
        • Assist in follow-up investigation
          • Exposure to quarterly reporting and information from Sponsors
          • Exposure to detailed portfolio company information
      • Quarterly Ratings Analysis
        • Working with the Quant team to develop more robust quantitative methods for defining ratings and applying a scorecard approach
        • Create trends, work on analysis, and build a guidebook to document the process and rationale with intention to incorporate the process across Performance-Based

      Key Responsibilities Continued

      • Research
        • Learn about the alternative assets/private equity landscape
        • Leverage insights for various market commentary, PowerPoint presentations, assist in deal underwriting (market overviews, team overview, etc.)
        • Develop professional relationships with key members of the Private Assets Teams
      • Portfolio Analytics
        • Work closely with the Portfolio Management & Analytics, Middle Office, Risk, and Quant teams to assist in creating dashboards, entering data, developing a hypothesis, etc. around portfolio analytics and portfolio construction
        • Connect the interaction of all five Performance-Based groups with the broader Investments organization
      • Other
        • Sit in during various investment meetings, Deal Committee, Leader’s Meetings, etc. to better understand the deal process/lifecycle. The intern may assist in preparing materials for the meetings, maintaining the agenda, etc.
        • Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with the middle office team and gain eFront exposure, learn about the operations side of Private Assets, and assist with ad-hoc projects

      Job Qualifications

      • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics; must be a full time student the semester following the internship
      • Can analyze data and review analysis while demonstrating strong decision-making skills, attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively, ask questions, and provide creative solutions
      • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office: Intermediate – Excel, Intermediate – Word, Beginner – Outlook, Basic – PowerPoint; standard knowledge in the use of data sources
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills

      Compensation offered for this role is between $23 and $32 an hour and is based on experience and qualifications.

      The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
