      Overview

      As the IRI Calculator, you are responsible for processing and calculating complex and sensitive Income Replacement Indemnity (IRI) calculations and payments for employed earners. In this role, you will contribute to a collaborative team environment and regularly solicit input from peers while providing input and sharing expertise with others. You will work collaboratively with other departments and customers to ensure that the paid entitlements are managed in an effective and timely manner.

      Responsibilities

      • Analyzes and interprets diverse financial and qualitative data.
      • Classifies a claimant or deceased in compliance with legislative guidelines and determines appropriate entitlements. When unique scenarios arise, makes independent decisions regarding entitlement calculations.
      • Clarifies and gathers information required to complete IRI related calculations, which may include meeting with the claimant and/or his/her employer or representatives to gather information.
      • Identifies unique coverage situations and discrepancies which may require referral to MPI’s Coverage Committee. Brings these files to the attention of the IRI Supervisor and/or PIPP Support Services Manager with recommendations for procedural or coverage changes
      • Creates payment schedules and drafts entitlement decision letters for Case Manager review and approval.
      • Responds to IRI calculation enquiries from claimants and employers, as required.
      • Establishes and documents gross yearly employment income (GYEI) of claimant, determines application of tax implications, and performs IRI calculations.
      • Applies employment screening criteria, and conducts additional employment and earnings research on files, as required. Brings these files to the attention of the Case Manager for Special Investigations Unit (SIU) referral.
      • Reconciles permanent impairment entitlements and calculates interest payable
      • Seeks input and guidance when unfamiliar issues arise with claimants and proactively provides input to others when seeking guidance.
      • Maintains an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation.

      Qualifications

      • Completion of 4th level of a legacy accounting program (CGA, CA, CMA).

      OR

      • Completion of the CPA’s Prerequisite Education Program (PREP).

      OR

      • Enrolment in the CPA’s Professional Education Program (PEP).

      OR

      • Degree with a minimum of eight university courses in accounting or business.

      Plus

      • Completion of a recognized Taxation course including personal and corporate taxation.
      • Four years practical experience in applying Personal Injury Protection Plan or the Income Tax Act of Canada or progressive accounting experience in a computerized environment.
