      PURPOSE

      The Islander Housing Electrician, troubleshoots and repairs electrical controls. Lays out and installs new electrical secondary service including panels, breakers, disconnects, and switches.

      DESCRIPTION

      Functional Area 1: Electrical

      Percent Effort: 90%

      • Dismantles electrical components and replaces defective electrical or mechanical parts

      • Installs and maintains various types of switches, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, appliances and other involved in residential units.

      • Installs and monitors performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.

      • Installs grounding leads.

      • Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, repairs, and adjusts electrical fixtures, apparatus, equipment, wiring, and new services to include panels, breakers, and conduit.

      • Mounts lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.

      • Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.

      • Troubleshoots and repairs electric controls.

      • Operate a TAMUCC vehicle and/or golf cart to navigate to and from worksites.

      Functional Area 2: Maintenance

      Percent Effort: 5%

      • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

      • Interprets and applies blueprints to plan electrical repairs and modifications.

      Functional Area 3: Other

      Percent Effort: 5%

      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      • High school diploma or GED

      • Four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

      • Additional experience/education may be considered as a substitute for the minimum qualifications required:

        • Eight (8) years of full-time experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

        • Associate’s degree with two (2) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

        • Bachelor’s degree.

      • Possession of a current State of Texas TDLR Journeyman Electrician's License

      • Maintain a valid Driver License.

      • Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and contractors.

      • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

      • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, and work in cramped or awkward positions for extended periods of time.

      • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.

      • Ability to install and maintain, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and other electrical components.

      • Knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.

      • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.

      • Ability to install grounding leads.

      • Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.

      • Ability to install and maintain lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and other electrical components as appropriate to the position.

      • Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.

      • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, and equipment.

      SALARY: up to $23.42/hourly.

      • $48,713.60/annually, approximately.
