      Summer Internship Program

      Our 10-week program is designed to increase future employment potential for prospects while providing a valuable resource to the business. This Summer Internship will appeal to proactive and self-motivated college juniors/seniors with a genuine desire to learn about the energy business and industry. During the internship, candidates will work on real projects and have real responsibilities. NRG aims to help candidates build strengths, gain skills that can be transferred to any workplace, and stand out from the crowd.

      Ideal Candidate

      This Intern role within the organization is a Data Engineer Intern based in Houston under IT Data Architecture and Analytics team. NRG is looking for self-driven, high-caliber individuals who can grasp complex commercial issues and harness information to deliver solutions. In return, NRG will provide the support, guidance, and opportunities to help our ideal candidate be successful.       Data Engineer Intern Responsibilities include:

      • Work collaboratively with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Business Intelligence/Analytics and Business partners in Enterprise Data and Analytics (ED&A) group to design, develop and support data solutions.
      • Involve in data projects and services in multiple stages (if possible, all stages) of Data Product Life Cycle, from Proof-of-Concept (POC), ingestion, transformation, platform, observability, all the way to consumption.
      • Develop automated ETL/ELT data ingestion pipelines to process data from multiple sources and formats (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server, Salesforce, Snowflake, CSV, API endpoints, etc.) using existing ED&A data ingestion framework, practices, and standards.
      • Build and/or support data platform for advanced data architecture and capabilities, e.g., generative AI POC, cloud platform enablement, data governance and security interfaces, or data observability enhancements etc.
      • Work as a Big Data Developer (data/back-end) to collaborate with UI developers (front-end) to analyze, develop, test, and deploy solution for Data Marketplace, which is NRG’s one-stop-shop for data assets and products.
      • Participate in Agile scrums to clearly understand and communicate accomplished tasks, delivery plans and potential risks/challenges.
      • Follow DevOps and CI/CD practices to ensure the reliability and scalability of data pipelines.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Degree discipline: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Data Science, Data Analytics or related field
      • Must have completed second year of college with a 3.0 GPA or higher
      • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
