      Academy of Art University is seeking a Janitor to join our Facilities team in San Francisco. This is a fixed-term, full-time position starting in June and ending in September. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in a janitorial/custodian position, preferred within an educational or institutional setting. This position will work 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, which may include evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on University needs.

      Responsibilities:

      The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment across university buildings and facilities. This role supports the university's mission by ensuring that academic, administrative, and public areas are well-maintained and conducive to learning and work.

      Key Responsibilities:
      • Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
      • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors.
      • Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
      • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and reporting facility issues.
      • Assist with room setups for classes, meetings, and events (e.g., moving furniture or equipment).
      • Follow safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with university guidelines.
      • Respond to cleaning emergencies or special requests in a timely manner.
      • Secure buildings as directed after cleaning shifts.
      • Perform other duties as assigned
      • Restroom cleaning
      • Empty and wipe out all trash and sanitary waste receptacles.
      • Polish all metal and mirrors.
      • Clean and polish all dispensers.
      • Clean and disinfect washbasins, toilet bowls, and urinals.
      • Disinfect underside and tops of toilet seats.
      • Spot clean tile walls and toilet partitions.
      • Spot clean walls around washbasins.
      • Mop all lavatory floors with germicidal solution
      • Replenish soap, towels, tissue, and seat cover dispensers.

      Qualifications:

      • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
      • Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred, especially in an educational or institutional setting.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Basic understanding of cleaning equipment and supplies.
      • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.

      Compensation: $19.50/hour

      Academy of Art University offers full-time employees health insurance, 401k options, paid vacation based on years of service (15 days' accrual at start), paid holidays, paid sick leave and a commuter benefit program. The Academy also offers full-time employees an opportunity to take one undergraduate course tuition free each semester.
