      The Opportunity

      We are seeking a dedicated Software Engineer Level II for our Plano or San Antonio office. The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for a multi-year Payments Modernization Journey for CFO Treasury to t ransform and simplify Treasury Payments systems by implementing technology solutions to provide scalable and compliant payment c apabilities for our members. In addition, the candidate will be responsible or assist with end-to-end technology integration including solution design, infrastructure design, data flow/integration, system performance, reliability functions, and tech debt tracking & resolution across Payment Modernization.

      Within defined guidelines and framework, you will provide support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

      This position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.

      What you'll do:

      • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
      • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
      • Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
      • Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions
      • Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
      • Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques
      • Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
      • Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
      • Follows the software development lifecycle.

      What you have:

      • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT)
      • 2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline/technology.
      • 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
      • Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
      • Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
      • Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
      • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions

      What sets you apart:

      • Enterprise Development experience with Java
      • Experience with React with Redux or another modern JavaScript framework
      • Familiarity with JSR Batch
      • Experience with AGILE methodology (Scrum, Lean, SAFe, etc.)
      • Experience with event driven frameworks such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or IBM MQ
      • Experience integrating with backend systems using frameworks such as JMS, JPA or JDBC
      • Experience building APIs with Spring Boot
      • Ability to design and implement container-based APIs using Docker
      • Experience with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or OpenShift
      • Working experience with build frame frameworks such as Gradle or Maven, Software Version control systems based on GIT and CI/CD frameworks based on GitLab CI
      • Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks

      What we offer:

      Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $ 71,490.00 - $136,690.00.

      Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
