      Req#: R4627

At AQA, we’re committed to advancing education and we’re committed to our people. As the largest provider of academic qualifications in the UK, we mark over seven million GCSEs and A-levels each year and it’s our people who make this happen.

Are you looking for a new opportunity to use the experience you have in education and exams administration? If you’d like to be part of a team that support awarding bodies across the UK to ensure the integrity of exams, then becoming a Centre Inspector could be the right next step for you.

On behalf of the JCQ Awarding Bodies, AQA are recruiting people to join our team of Centre Inspectors across the UK . Our inspectors undertake visits to centres conducting timetabled exams and provide awarding organisations with assurance that relevant examination rules are being followed.

We currently have opportunities in many UK areas, in particular: Scotland, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, London, Essex and Kent.

      As an inspector you will:

      • ensure the integrity of the examination process by checking that JCQ regulations are being applied consistently
      • provide general advice and guidance, where necessary, to centre staff during visits
      • provide written feedback to both the centre and the JCQ Centre Inspection Service team on a centre’s compliance with JCQ regulations
      • carry out other types of centre visits to reinforce specific requirements of the examination process, including secure storage, access arrangements and question paper and readiness inspections.

      We’re looking for people who:

      • have recent previous experience of the examination process, either within a centre as Examinations Officer, Deputy Head, Head, or equivalent relevant experience within an Awarding Body
      • have up-to-date knowledge of JCQ regulations and requirements
      • have the ability to communicate effectively and work calmly under pressure
      • are available to undertake multiple inspections in a range of dates during March-June, as well as being available to carry out other ad-hoc visits as necessary at other times of the year.

      Further information

      • Inspectors must ensure that they do not have any other work commitments which might cause any conflict of interest during the inspection process. You cannot be currently employed as an Exams Officer and also work as an inspector.
      • Inspectors will be allocated a range of centres within reasonable travelling distance of their home. An allocation would be between 50-80 centres. There are currently vacancies across multiple locations in the UK (a full list of all locations can be requested).
      • We ask our inspectors to visit 2 centres per half day during the exam series. For the busier part of a series you will need to conduct inspections in both the morning and afternoon.
      • Inspectors must have access to a private PC with broadband internet and have an acceptable level of IT literacy.
      • Inspectors must have a full driving licence. (This may be waived for Central London.)

      Benefits

      • Face-to-face training provided along with support materials to ensure you are fully equipped to carry out your work.
      • Support from an experienced inspector acting as a mentor for your first examination series.
      • An opportunity to share your expertise and experience.
      • Expected earnings of between £1500-4000 a year. Payment is made in accordance with a schedule of fees. Please enquire for further information.

      The process

To apply please upload your CV detailing your prior experience of examination administration and complete the application form.

If successful, you will be contacted to arrange an interview with our Centre Inspection Services team.

The deadline for completed applications is Friday 19th January 2024 at 11.59pm.

      Recruitment Agencies

We have a preferred supplier list (PSL) in place.

Unsolicited CVs will be treated as a gift. We will not be subject to or liable under your terms and conditions for agency fees.
