      The Engineering and Science Services and Capabilities Augmentation (ESSCA) contract provides engineering, scientific, and technical support to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. Our Structural Dynamics & Integration team is a high performing group executing challenging tasks for dynamic analysis of the Space Launch System (SLS) (and other launch vehicles and spacecraft) including the Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) functions. This exciting work will serve as a critical step in sending humans to the Moon, Mars and beyond!

      Responsibilities:

      We are searching for a Structural Engineer to join our team supporting the development of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and other missions including the Human Lander System (HLS) and secondary payloads. Working independently and in an integrated, collaborative team, your responsibilities would be to:

      • Performing structural dynamic analyses for spacecraft flight hardware.
      • Producing and maintaining models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes, that simulate mechanical loading conditions, dynamic environments (shock and vibration), and mechanism motions.
      • Performing loads development (primary structure and component level), shock and vibration environments determination and component and system level testing and data evaluation.
      • Preparing test plans/requirements for: static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock tests. Analyze and document the results in post-test reports.· Generating detailed analysis reports and presenting/communicating those results with the customer

      • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent field from an ABET accredited institution is required.
      • 10+ years of experience in static and structural dynamics analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, or missiles, or a combination of experience and advanced degrees (MS, PhD)
      • Resident of the greater Huntsville area in north Alabama or willing to relocate
      • Candidate must be a US citizen

      Skills and experience should demonstrate:

      • Experience with NASTRAN, PASTRAN, and ADAMS Multibody dynamics software, or other industry standard modeling and analysis toolsets
      • Familiarity with NASA and/or commercial spaceflight programs and requirements
      • Experience with Matlab, Python or other programming language to support creation of in-house tools and scripts
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to effectively communicate technical information via written reports and PowerPoint presentations.
      • A proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite competence (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) is required.
      • Candidate is required to be self-motivated, an effective team player familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.

      Essential Functions

      Work Environment

      Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

      Physical Requirements

      Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and facilities (10%).

      Equipment and Machines

      Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

      Attendance

      Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

      Other Essential Functions

      The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
