    • License and Certification Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a permit issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Possess service required certification.

      Education Qualifications: Associate's degree in related field required.

      Experience Qualifications: Retired non-commissioned officer with at least 20 years of service and drawing retirement pay. Must have an exemplary military record.

      Skills Qualifications: Strong organizational skills; ability to challenge and motivate teenagers; ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement; plus additional skills to be determined by the branch of service associated with the program; ability to work successfully with colleagues; ability to project and generate a positive attitude; and ability to effect change.

      Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for conducting the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program in accordance with applicable law, Armed Services, and Cadet Command regulations and policies.

      1. Demonstrate quality classroom instruction in accordance with GCPS and service expectations.
      a. Teach, guide, and mentor cadets according to the curriculum that is provided by the GCPS Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) and respective branch of service.
      b. Participate in local school and district professional development in order to improve classroom teaching expertise and effectiveness.
      c. Accomplish required school tasks and participate in staff meetings, professional development, school committees, and student activities.
      d. Perform individually assigned duties similar to those required of other teachers in the school.
      e. Plan for and deliver lessons for all elements of the curriculum.
      f. Utilize research-proven instructional strategies, such as those found in the Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies (QPTS), in order to effectively teach skills and knowledge
      g. Properly assess
      cadet performance and efficiently maintain grade book.
      h. Participate in recurring instructor conferences and other professional development opportunities offered by the local school, district, and state.
      i. Meet any continuing education requirements of the state, GCPS, and the supporting service.
      j. Follow proper procedures of accounting and expenditure for all fund sources including local school, district, service, and fund raisers.

      2. Lead, supervise, and train cadets in order to optimize their leadership learning opportunities
      .
      a. Counsel and mentor students concerning their academic performance as members of the Corps of Cadets.
      b. Counsel students who are interested in enlistment or senior JROTC scholarships; assist with completion of service academy applications.
      c. Recruit and retain new students.
      d. Plan and lead marketing for the JROTC program in the school and community.


      3. Adhere to individual service related regulations and guidelines.
      a. Prepare service required annual training plans and other documentation to reflect school and JROTC activities.
      b. Supervise electronic student records, provide enrollment and other student reports as required by the supporting service.
      c. Supervise service related logistics tasks and requisitions.
      d. Maintain arms and supply operations in accordance with regulatory guidance.
      e. Prepare the unit for official visits by dignitaries, formal inspections, and mandated visits from service headquarters.
      f. Follow service related requirements to assist with the planning and execution of summer student leadership opportunities.
      g. Conduct risk assessments to mitigate the possibility of an accident for all activities and observe and enforce service, GCPS, and school safety guidelines.
      h. Maintain enrollment of cadets per service and GCPS expectations.
      i. Support the JROTC Senior Instructor in all facets of the JROTC program including teaching, activities, and competitions.

      4. Plan and resource extracurricular activities for cadets.
      a. Plan, schedule, and coordinate extracurricular cadet events such as: drill competitions, Raider meets, academic bowls, air rifle, and orienteering.
      b. Plan, schedule, and coordinate cadet social events such as an annual formal or dining out.
      c. Support local community requests for color guards or other community relate events.
      d. Plan, organize, and conduct hands-on training that builds from teaching in the classroom.
      e. Supervise cadets during instruction and extracurricular activities.
      f. Organize cadet classroom and extracurricular activities in order to maximize student leadership opportunities, utilizing the cadet chain of command whenever possible.

      5. Perform other duties as assigned.


      Physical Demands:
      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
