NOTICE OF VACANCY GRANT-FUNDED POSITION POSITION: JUDY CENTER FAMILY RESOURCE WORKER LOCATION: Patuxent Appeal Campus JOB SUMMARY: The Judy Hoyer Family Resource Worker is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular and long-term (up to three years) contact/support with families. This activity will occur primarily within the family’s home and be intensive (each visit should last for at least one hour). The interventions should be family-centered and strength-based and directed at establishing a trusting relationship; assisting in strengthening the parent-child relationship; assisting parents in improving their skills to optimize the home environment; improving the family support system; and increasing the family’s ability to problem solve and assume the role of advocate for themselves and their children. The activities may also include identifying and referring for contact/appointments at other supportive agencies, including health care appointments. The Family Resource Worker will also be responsible for assisting the family in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishment of children in the target age range, 0-5. This position plans, organizes, and implements programs and activities for family outreach and engagement, and coordinates activities with partner agencies. REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator and Grant Manager EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE: These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have/be: Two years of college, with preference given to applicant with Bachelor’s Degree. Related experience working with students. Maturity and experience in successfully working with children and their families. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: Knowledge of normal child growth/development and parent-child relationships. Ability to relate to families from a strength-based model, even in an apparently chaotic family environment; ability to approach families from a family-centered service model. Demonstrated motivation and the ability to practice basic supportive skills. Non-judgmental decision-making skills. Creative and knowledgeable about community resources. Ability to enjoy and function appropriately with long-term, ongoing projects; does not need immediate feedback or results for personal validation. Ability to establish and maintain personal/programmatic boundaries, while providing supportive services. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value systems and behavior norms. Belief in and be comfortable with advocating for nurturing, nonviolent discipline. Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and families with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate. Demonstrated good writing and organizational skills. Demonstrates technological literacy, experience with data collection and managing data; i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to adhere to Judy Hoyer and Calvert County Public Schools’ policies and procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking, and is performed in a typical school environment. UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule, including working with families on an emergency basis, evening and weekend school events, and training. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month position; $26.00 per hour; employment is contingent upon continued grant funding and need. FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt.
