- Develops an extension program to assist existing and potential livestock producers of cattle, swine, small ruminants and poultry, that will identify issues and implement extension methods and techniques in support of private and public stakeholders, for the island of Hawai‘i, which may also include statewide collaborations. This position will have responsibilities for beef cattle, small ruminants (sheep and goats), swine, range and pasture production and management.
- Serves as the liaison between industry members and organizations, government agencies and private companies/individuals.
- Advises and supports 4-H/Youth livestock programs, clubs and projects, individually and in collaboration with other 4-H/Youth development faculty.
- Works collaboratively with industry organizations, individuals, and CTAHR faculty to address livestock industry issues in Hawai’i County and across the state. Work with stakeholders involves meetings that occur after normal working hours and/or on weekends at off-site locations.
- Develops multi-disciplinary, collaborative partnerships and programs with Hawai’i County and other CTAHR faculty, government/community agencies, livestock associations and stakeholder groups.
- Provides information to diverse populations using various means such as workshops, field days, training development materials, presentations, and exhibits.
- Publishes scholarly information that addresses industry needs through appropriate media methods such as hard copy publications; web-based publications, social media and other communication and media alternatives.
- Seeks and obtains external funding to support implementation of educational programs. Conduct scholarly activities on the county, state, and national levels.
- Maintains communication with and collaborates closely with faculty and staff from the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences.
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing, with major work in Animal Science, Range Management, or a closely related field.
- Ability to apply Extension teaching methods.
- Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai‘i Driver’s License (Class 3), comparable driver’s license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional and modern educational methods and tools, i.e. computer-word processing, database management, desktop publishing, web meetings, social networking platforms.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to working with diverse stakeholders and historically underserved or under resourced populations.
- Demonstrated evidence of scholarly activities, including but not limited to peer-reviewed manuscript and extension publications.
- Experience with grant-writing and obtaining additional sources of programmatic support.

This position is funded jointly by Hawai’i County Government and the University of Hawai’i at Manoa (UHM), College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) Extension, and will direct report to the Hawai’i County Administrator.
