- Contributes to the Educational Technology team by providing expertise in instructional design for distributed education and flexible learning materials and methods.
- Liaises with course instructors for updates and provides instructional design expertise and media selection recommendations to course authors and external clients in the development of educational processes and materials.
- Provide instructional technology programming expertise and technical design advice to faculty and staff to ensure appropriate learner access to resources in the medical programs.
- Assists in the programming of online modules and learning artifacts using eLearning software and media authoring tools.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of blended and distributed educational artifacts which includes developing webpages, quizzes, assignments and designing the look and feel of the online components of the blended course.
- Collaborates with internal units and University groups such as the Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology (CTLT) and the Learning Technology Hub (LT Hub).
- Prepares documents for edits and re-formats course materials to ensure content is accurate, presentable for online learning, and up-to-date.
- Implements qualitative assurance processes for ongoing distributed educational artifacts.
- Prepares learning materials to train faculty as required in the use of the educational technologies in the blended and distributed learning environments.
- Performs ongoing research and evaluates developments specifically related to the pedagogical integration of instructional technology and tools.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Sound knowledge in areas of web-authoring, web-based application development, content management systems, web-server technologies, and social networking and collaboration technologies.
- Experience creating learning activities, learning modules, courseware, and leaner assessments.
- Familiarity with a wide variety of instructional technologies.
- Experience with media design and production.
- Experience with user experience and user interface design.
- Experience with e-learning authoring software applications such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), HTML, JavaScript and Adobe Photoshop.
- Working knowledge of project management practices would be an asset.
- Working knowledge of Word Press and Wiki’s an asset.
- Familiarity with and/or experience in the healthcare sector an asset.

Job Summary
The Digital Solutions: Educational Technology (EdTech) portfolio is responsible for supporting the design, development and maintenance of online learning artifacts including e-modules, virtual patients, simulations, facilitated learning sessions, blended learning opportunities and other educational outputs as required for all programs and schools across the Faculty of Medicine.
This one-year term position works closely with other members of the Educational Technology team and educational stakeholders to ensure that educational resources and technologies appropriately, effectively, consistently and sustainably support the educational objectives of the Faculty of Medicine.

Reports to the Senior Instructional Designer and Program Manager, Educational Technology, Faculty of Medicine. Works with academic and clinical faculty, external clients and UBC teams. The selected candidate will work closely with the other members of the Educational Technology team, faculty and staff.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors may result in inappropriate usage of advanced learning technologies and systems; inadequate Faculty of Medicine organizational preparation for adaptive and changing e-learning needs; missed deadlines and cost overruns; miscommunications between students, faculty and staff members relating to e-learning resources; learning session or service disruptions; frustration for faculty, staff and students relying on training and services to support their educational technology projects; breakdown in collaborative e-learning efforts with other Faculties.
Supervision ReceivedReports directly to the Senior Instructional Designer and Program Manager, Educational Technology, Faculty of Medicine; additional inter-site accountability within the Faculty of Medicine; works under general program or departmental guidelines. Work is reviewed in terms of quality and effectiveness in meeting educational goals.
This position, through the Senior Instructional Designer and Program Manager, Educational Technology, receives guidance and direction from Faculty of Medicine stakeholders on pedagogical components of Educational Technology.
Supervision Given
Provides input to user-support staff, faculty, and department representatives with regard to academic functions and course design. There are no direct reports to this position. This position may be expected to supervise work-study students; is expected to operate with wide latitude.
Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years' experience in the design, development and delivery of learning artifacts, and the use of instructional media for mixed-mode education courses and programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Degree in or working towards degree in education, educational technology, distributed education, educational psychology, or related fields preferred.
