      The Courts Department is a vital part of the local court system, responsible for maintaining and protecting the integrity of the court case files, for the coordination of jurors, swearing in court witnesses, and recording evidence presented at trial. Any fines, fees or assessments collected by the Courts Department are distributed to state and local governments according to law.

      The Justice Navigator position directly assists citizens and pro-se litigants in navigating the complex judicial process, showing customers how to perform record searches, online payment and filing functions, and form preparation in the Clerk’s customer service lobbies and Self-Help Center.

      Responsibilities include performing daily tasks, analyzing processes, and providing one-on-one guidance to customers, through an appointment based structure, to achieve desired business objectives. All functions are performed in accordance with the Court Department policies, procedures, and guidelines with ample direction from management.

      This position requires a high degree of empathy, understanding, and efficiency. The ability to demonstrate a thorough grasp of the customer needs while remaining an attentive and impartial listener are crucial to the role. The Justice Navigator will further be equipped with resources to empower customers to assist themselves in navigating the judicial process.

      Position duties include but are not limited to:
      • Assist customers with form preparation and completion for Evictions, Small Claims, Domestic Violence, and other case types as appropriate.
      • Assist customers in performing name and record searches, making online payments, and retrieving forms for court filing.
      • Assist customers in the Self-Help Center using software and online court access to create filings for court case matters
      • Assist the Lee County Legal Aid Society with the planning and scheduling of their weekly and monthly legal clinics
      • Facilitate the maintenance and scheduling of the Self-Help calendar, contacting customers to confirm appointments and following-up as appropriate
      • Innovatively create tools to streamline and simplify the customer experience
      • Maintain constant knowledge expansion and retention of legal processes, procedures, and resources

      Education, Experience & Certification(s):
      • High School diploma or equivalent required
      • Two years of clerical experience or any combination education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties
      • Two years customer service experience required
      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
      • Ability to assist others within knowledge areas
      • Ability to effectively measure and deliver training
      • Ability to perform duties with considerable knowledge of procedures and computer operations
      • Proficiency in business English and business math required
      • Good organizational skills and attention to detail required
      • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
      • Effective interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and professional demeanor required
      • Use tact and critical thinking in sensitive situations to assist with problem solving.
      • Protect the security and confidentiality of restricted files
      • Promotes and maintains courteous attitude at all times towards the public and in the workplace.
      • Work is performed under minimum supervision; requires initiative and independent judgment
      • Demonstrate proficiency with operations and general care of the PC, printers and other required office equipment
      • Ability to work extended hours
      Physical Requirements:
      • Office: Majority of the time is spent sitting at the computer, remainder of the time is spent assisting in other functions
      • Work from Home (if applicable): Majority of the time is spent sitting at the computer
      • This position requires clear verbal interaction with employees, the public and agencies
      • This position may require bending and reaching
      • This position may require going to other departments and/or offices on different floors and/or buildings throughout the day
      • This position may require occasional travel to other sites to review products, or attend meetings, seminars or classes
