      The 3rd Judicial District Juvenile Court Services in Woodbury County has an immediate opening for a Juvenile Court Officer 1.

      The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial Branch employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Salary range for this classification is $51,022.40 - $77,292.80.

      The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

      • Knowledge and experience with adolescent substance abuse treatment is preferred as the applicant may predominantly be processing drug and alcohol related offenses and/or cases assigned to the Woodbury County Juvenile Drug Court Program. This may require evening work approximately one evening per week.
      • Handling matters pertaining to delinquent youth, pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 232, including intake, diversion, supervision, and prevention activities.
      • Incorporates under immediate supervision, evidence informed/based practies with all youth under supervision that are identified moderate or high risk as identified by the IDA. Uses Effetive Practices in Community Supervision (EPICS) to guide cognitive and behavioiral change to reduce risk while reinforcing prosocial actions. Identifies EPICS interventions to consistently targed the driver ahnd crfiminogenic risk areas throughout the duration of the case.
      • Responsible for responding to emergency matters outside of normal working hours.
      • Reviews complaints independently and determines a course of action to address risk areas while ensuring public safety. Itake decisions may include diversion, informal adjustment contract, or request for a petition. Creates a case plan following a decision, to initiate programs, and/or services to address the youth’s risks and needs.
      Under the direct supervision of the Juvenile Court Supervisor, candidates will have the desire to learn the complexities of our court case processing system using our statewide Electronic Document Management System (EDMS). This position may occasionally involve travel to other counties in the district.

      Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.A Bachelor’s degree from a four – year college or university in law, criminal justice, criminology, sociology or related social sciences.
      Possess personal integrity and emotional maturity.
      Must successfully complete training requirements set by the Iowa Supreme Court.
      Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
      Candidates must pass a preemployment criminal background check.
