      The Center for Victims of Torture is seeking a Karen Interpreter to provide interpretation services to clients who are receiving psychotherapy, social work and medical services in St. Paul, MN. Services are provided in-person.

      Responsibilities:

      Provide interpretation services to Karen speaking clients who are receiving psychotherapy, social work, and medical services. Interpretation is typically done in a face-to-face setting. Interpretation services are provided on a part-time, as-needed basis in St. Paul, MN.

      Hours vary, but typically interpreters will work about 6-8 hours per week. Eligible candidates must be available to provide in-person interpretation during the week days.

      The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Atlanta and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.

      Position Details:

      • Location: St. Paul, MN
      • Full/part-time status: Part-time
      • Pay starts at: $28-$30/hour
      • Position is open to candidates who reside in and are eligible to work in the US
      • Must be located in the twin cities, MN area and able to provide in-person interpretation at CVT's sites in St. Paul, MN

      Qualifications:

      • Applicant must possess excellent interpreting skills.
      • Fluency in Karen and English.
      • Must be registered on the MN Department of Health Spoken Language Healthcare Interpreter Roster.
      • Interpreting experience in the medical, mental health, or social services areas preferred.
      • Familiarity with terminology and concepts in health care and social services.
      • Strong understanding and demonstrated compliance with the role and ethics of interpreting, including confidentiality and boundaries, as they relate to mental health settings.
      • Interested in the advancement of human rights.
      • Must be able to work flexible hours during the week day and to accurately manage a changing schedule. (No weekends)

      Hourly Rate: $28-$30 per hour

      Estimated Hours: 6-8 hours per week. Schedule will vary week-to-week
