The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for fun, energetic, and enthusiastic RECREATION WORKERS to assist with our summer KIDCO children's program
General Description
This is a non-permanent position that works on an intermittent or seasonal basis. Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period. This posting is specific for summer hours which can vary from 7:15 am to 6:00pm. Job sites are located at various facilities throughout the City of Tucson. A Recreation Worker provides services to the patrons of the City Parks and Recreation facilities. This position assists in planning activities for children ages 5 to 12 (possible positions for programming for children ages 12 to 14), prepares facilities for scheduled functions, and supervises youth activity participants.
Essential Functions
Supervises, engages, and instructs a group of up to 20 participants, ages 5-12 years Actively, creatively, and safely plans and leads indoor and outdoor games, crafts, sports, swimming, field trips, and other recreational activities Administers City of Tucson and Parks and Recreation policies and procedures Maintains appropriate communication with school personnel, participant's parents or guardians, and recreation staff Ensures the safety of program participants by enforcing discipline and behavior policies, and reporting accidents and hazardous conditions as warranted Ensures the facility is prepared for scheduled functions and arranged equipment is safe and appropriate Participates in weekly site staff meetings and contributes to weekly planning of programs
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education Level & Type: Less than High School Minimum Experience Qualifications: Three months of full-time employment and/or volunteer experience involving customer contact
Special Job Requirements
At least16 years of age at time of application Some positions may required an unrestricted driver's license with at least 24 months of licensed driving experience All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and pass a background screening upon hire
Selection Plan
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the training and work experience in their employment profile and the response to the supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview. Oral Board Interviews will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the 'Best Qualified' and 'Qualified' band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision.
