      Summary

      East Side House, founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement. Its youth education and technology programs teach skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource, the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.

      As a member of the Older Adults team, the Kitchen Aide is responsible for all meal service and all daily kitchen operations.

      Primary Functions

      Duties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:

      • Set up steam table, serving counter, and serve all meals during mealtime.
      • Wash/clean all utensils and appliances after meal service.
      • Maintain daily Food Catering Log, and food temperature.
      • Maintain good sanitary habits.
      • Store all disposables and document all inventory
      • Substitute for Kitchen Aide at other satellite when needed
      • Reports to the Cook/Assistant Cook

      Expected Work Schedule

      This is a full-time position, scheduled to work thirty-five (35) hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs.

      Remote Work

      ESH has determined that up to ten (10%) percent of this position can be remote due to COVID-19. Subject to change as public health conditions evolve.

      Work Environment

      This job operates in a public Community Center, and its kitchen. This role may use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Additionally, this role routinely uses kitchen items such as knives, sinks and stoves.

      Travel

      Often. This role coordinates meals between our three(3) Older Adults sites.

      Physical Demands

      The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position is largely active role; with employees needing to walk or stand for long periods of time, repeat the same movements, use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls and, bend or twist their body. This would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds often, with or without assistive devices. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for qualified candidates.

      Qualifications


      Required Skills/Experience

      • High School Diploma preferred.
      • Must have a qualifying NYC Food Protection Certificate.
      • Knowledge of nutritional portion control.
      • Knowledge of NYC Department Of Health/Sanitation regulations.
      • Understand the Elderly Population with the ability to communicate effectively with them in a caring non-prejudice manner.
