Overview

A high profile family in Brooklyn Heights is seeking a nanny for their active and intelligent 7-year-old son. The schedule will be provided 1 week prior and candidates should be comfortable staying late, or coming in early- no week will be exactly the same. The successful candidate will enjoy a comprehensive handover period with the family’s long-term nanny, who is relocating out of state.

The family understand that this schedule requires flexibility, so they are prepared to guarantee 50 hours per week, year-round, even though candidates are unlikely to hit this threshold during the school year, when a typical day includes; school pick-up at 3pm (the school is a 7-minute walk from the family’s home), preparing a snack, helping with homework, play-time, and perhaps some screen time (the child is allowed 1 hour of screen time per day, and is able to choose when he uses this). Dinner is usually at 6:30pm, then it’s bath, reading time, and bedtime around 8pm. If the parents are out and the candidate is required to stay later than 8pm, they will always order the candidate a car home. The schedule during the school holidays will look a little different, and typically candidates will work a longer day (e.g. 9am-6pm). Summers are spent largely in the Hamptons, so you must be a good swimmer and love being outside. Candidates will receive an additional overnight rate of $75/ night whenever they’re required to stay over, and all hours over and above 50 hours will be paid at overtime.

This position requires a lot of energy, creativity, and an adventurous spirit. The parents value an education-minded person who can inspire and motivate their son to explore his interests, which include; crafting, Legos, piano, and science. He is active and loves to run, jump, and play. He is also interested in learning to skateboard, ice skate, and tumble. You must be very comfortable taking the subway and other transportation as this is another favorite activity.

This is a fully-staffed household, including a house manager, housekeepers, a driver, and a chef, so there is very little required of the candidate that isn’t child-related. However, candidates should have a pitch-in attitude, as everyone works together with kindness and respect to make the house run smoothly, e.g. loading the dishwasher, or very simple meal prep for their son on Mondays and Tuesdays, when the chef takes their days off. Candidates must be comfortable working around the parents as they are in and out most days, and are incredibly involved, so you must be able to step back when needed, but take charge when the situation calls for it.

A clean and current driving record is a plus, though not essential. The family travel domestically and internationally, so candidates should be passport ready, though won’t always be required to join the family on family vacations. There is a 10lb dog, so candidates should be pet friendly, though she won’t be the candidate’s responsibility. The family are offering the successful candidate a rate of $40 per hour (which amounts to a base salary of $114,400) plus health, dental, vision and a matching 401k.
