      Compensation

      Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

      Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)

      Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)

      In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

      Duties

      The nominal workload for this position is 10 hours per week (6 hours demonstrating, 4 hours of marking and lab preparation). Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. Under the direction of the Senior Lab Instructor, the incumbent is required to be familiar with laboratory procedures and present an introduction to the lab, demonstrate laboratory techniques, teach and assist students during the lab, maintain safe lab conditions, be responsible for lab preparation and cleanup, mark lab reports, and attend meetings as needed. Incumbent will be required to care for live organisms and perform other tasks as directed by the course instructor.

      Qualifications

      1 . MSc in Biology or currently enrolled in a graduate program in biology or related discipline , or have successfully demonstrated this course in the last 5 years.

      2 . Completed BIOL 2P02, BIOL 2P03, and BIOL 3P50 or equivalent courses, with a minimum grade of 75%.

      3 . Demonstrated competence working for at least 3 months in a BIOL research laboratory.
