- Advising on the resolution of employment and disciplinary issues.
- Counseling employees experiencing workplace difficulties.
- Interpreting policy and contract language to advise various audiences on appropriate application.
- Coordinating and/or assisting with investigations that arise from grievances, University hotlines, direct complaints, as well as those escalated from work units.
- Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the various labor agreements to include interacting with union representatives on a variety of issues.
- Representing the University at informal problem-solving meetings; and will be a hearing officer at formal grievances, serving as liaison among management, employees, and union representatives .
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with various levels of faculty, staff, administrators, and outside agencies.
- Excellent judgment and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; an outstanding customer service orientation.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Labor and Employee Relations Specialist (LERS) plays a key role in the goal to continue positive relations with all members of the University community across all locations. Reporting to the Manager, Labor and Employee Relations Division, the successful candidate will primarily serve as a point of contact for Human Resource Strategic Partners, managers, and employees on both employee relations and labor relations matters.

Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree plus three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous labor relations experience in a unionized workforce is preferred. The successful candidate must possess:

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$68,200.00 - $102,300.00Salary Structure - additional information on Penn State's job and salary structure.
