      • Based predominantly at the Camperdown Charles Perkins Centre, Sydney

      • Base Salary (HEO3) $67,787 p.a - $75,272 p.a + 17% superannuation

      About the opportunity

      We are looking for a Laboratory Animal Services (LAS) Assistant Animal Technician to provide animal husbandry services with primary responsibilities to be based within a nominated animal facility
      but with flexibility to perform a similar role in other facilities if required.

      You will play an important role by actively participating in the implementation of relevant policies and procedures to ensure appropriate animal welfare standards and regulatory compliance in day to day operations and to support efficient operation.

      Your key responsibilities will be to:

      • perform routine animal husbandry tasks including cage changing, water and cage checking, general monitoring of animal health and euthanasia

      • assist with the management of breeding colonies to meet researchers' requirements under approved protocols

      • ensure that animal records are accurate and up to date

      • communicate concerns with animal welfare promptly and assist the Senior Animal Technician and Animal Welfare Veterinarian in resolving any issues

      • assist the work of other animal care staff within the facility to ensure appropriate standards of animal care and client services

      • clean cages and other standard items of equipment and help ensure general tidiness and cleanliness to help maintain the facility in state that is safe, clean and well-organised

      • monitor equipment and infrastructure to ensure reliable and safe operation; in accordance with appropriate approval procedures.

      • a Cert II in Animal Care or previous experience proving animal care in a veterinary environment

      • a valid Full (unrestricted) drivers license

      • a commitment to animal welfare and to the use of animals in research

      • ability to maintain good relationships with fellow team members and research staff

      • exceptional animal handling skills, especially laboratory rodents (e.g. scruffing)

      • the ability to work a weekend roster and holidays when required

      • the capability to complete tasks within a reasonable timeframe, appropriate attention to detail, and ability to help maintain a clean and safe workplace.

      Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
