- Update and optimize automation protocols for experimental and analytical assays
- Execute and assist technical staff in the performing automated experiments to achieve goals set forth in study and work plans
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in a broad array of automation based techniques for laboratory experiments and data management
- Prepare and write support manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and validation documents for applications or work processes
- Foster a cooperative environment with both technical staff and management team to help achieve the success of project goals within the functional group and project teams
- Provide guidance to personnel regarding automation protocol development and execution
- Maintain a broad knowledge of automation concepts, practices, and procedures and can critically evaluate relevant literature with respect to applicable projects
- Provides general automation input to management team as needed
- Experience : Applicant must have previous experience in developing and transitioning laboratory immunoassays into partial or fully automated assays. Applicant should have experience with laboratory automation equipment (preferably Hamilton & Tecan) and operational knowledge of immunoassay based instruments (such as flow cytometers, Octet, Luminex, MesoScale, Biomek, Biotek, Cytomat and Multi-mode plate readers). Programming expertise with commercial liquid handlers and HTS software are required (Biomek, SAMI/SAMI EX, Vantage, Freedom EVOware, preferred), while programming knowledge in .NET (VB, C#, ASP), Java Script, SQL server, VBA Excel and Matlab are highly desired
- Soft Skills : The position requires significant interaction with people of varying scientific backgrounds, approaches, and skill sets. The applicant must be independent in thought and results driven while possessing strong and positive communication and team skills
- Technical Skills : Applicant should be able to work on multiple projects and able to independently consult scientific literature to solve technical problems. A passion for automated bench work, data analysis, and reporting excellence is a must
- Education : B.Sc. or higher degree in engineering, bioengineering, physical, computer science or applied science field
- Languages : French & English

Our Team
Sanofi Pasteur’s Global Laboratory and Operation Support function(GLOS) is seeking an automation specialist to assist in developing high throughput automated biological assays and processes in a research environment. This is a research position located in Marcy-L'Étoile is within the Automation Center of Excellence team(ACE). The team provides global automation network support including the design and implementation of robotic platforms and data processing solutions to improve R&D scientists efficiency enabling them to focus on the science of developing, assessing and implementing new vaccines. The position offers an array of opportunities working on different projects and initiatives specific to the development, implementation, and programming of a robotic platforms for laboratory and data processing solutions.
Main Responsibilities
Automation Specialist (or Automation Engineer) serves a support role in developing high throughput automated assays. Responsibilities include executing a variety of tasks in the development of automated systems and assays in both research laboratory & GxP quality environments. Duties include programming of liquid handlers and automation software, aiding in the development of automated protocols and methods, training of staff on automated equipment use, maintaining automation equipment, and some presentation of data (written and oral). The position will be responsible for developing and transferring automated methods to the project teams, assisting in performing automated experiments and processing data for the purposes of optimizing, improving, and troubleshooting methods. Secondary responsibilities include writing documentation supporting automation procedures and equipment maintenance, maintaining equipment, and training new users for instruments.

ABOUT YOU
Automation Specialist is primarily a laboratory-focused position. They must have a firm understanding of the scientific goals and strategy for their assigned project(s), translate the goals of the project to their team, and successfully coordinate efforts transversally across the teams to achieve project milestones. Automation Engineers are expected to manage experimental obstacles by leveraging their knowledge, experience, and awareness of current techniques described in the literature. This position will require communication regarding technical expertise with collaborators and external engineering companies.
Automation Engineers are responsible for the development of automation procedures and operation of automation equipment. The position will require an individual to be proficient in preparing and executing automated laboratory assays for testing and project support. Automation Engineer has an understanding of laboratory automation equipment and immunoassay based instruments in order to address basic errors and issues with method results. The engineer has general knowledge of commercial liquid handlers (such as Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman, Perkin-Elmer) and HTS software (such as Softmax) to perform general updates to automated methods. The position will be responsible for assisting in the development of applications for scientific use, automated processes, and data presentation.
An individual in the position must have strong problem solving, quantitative, debugging, and documentation skill sets and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with end users and other developers. The position requires significant interaction with staff with varying scientific and business skills.
Automation Engineer works on multiple projects and be able to independently consult literature to solve technical problems.
