Job Description
- Req#: 13065
- Test IP and FPI samples for quality control and quality assurance of products.
- Test raw materials to ensure compliance to specifications and/or requirements.
- Test standard reference blacks to ascertain proper function of test equipment and chemicals used in performing the tests.
- Input test results into the Laboratory Information Management System (WinLIMS) computer database.
- Provide analytical and pellet quality testing in support of technical trials (TRIS’s).
- Communicate test results to Operations, WPS, and Quality Assurance personnel in a timely and efficient manner in order to minimize off quality product and shipment delays.
- Prepare and package samples for shipment to customers or other Cabot laboratories.
- Assist supervisor in job training and implementation of new or revised test procedures.
- Complete all required safety training and maintain a clean work environment at all times.
- Comply with all chemical waste disposal procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s).
- Identify opportunities to minimize waste and improve efficiencies within the laboratory operations.
- Minimize Laboratory costs where possible without affecting quality, safety, or environmental.
- Complete LTS requests in a timely fashion.
- Maintain all Lab 5S areas (If you use it, clean it.)
- Limit modifications in LIMS to the year’s target average (Ex. 2 per 1000)
- Input test data into LIMS within the year’s target average (Ex. 94 minutes)
- Input standards data into LIMS within the year’s target average (Ex. 193 minutes)
- Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
- BS degree - Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Preferred or 5 years’ experience in plant or industrial environment.

Cabot Corporation has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lab Technician to join our Franklin, LA manufacturing plant.
Our facility in Franklin prides itself on being active in community affairs, consistently striving to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of the people who live and work in our community. We have been manufacturing carbon black since 1952. Today, approximately 150 employees produce more than 70 grades of carbon blacks for elastomer reinforcement and specialty carbon blacks. The Lab Technician will perform analytical and pellet quality tests on In-process (IP) samples, Finished Product Inventory (FPI) samples, raw materials, and other required special tests to assure product conformance to specification and customer requirements. Enter test results in the WinLIMS database and communicate the same to Operations personnel for potential corrective actions. Utilize the latest test procedures and techniques to ensure optimum safety and quality performance standards.
