      Job summary

      We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced midwife to manage and coordinate the Labour ward (Delivery suite) at Newham University Hospital in delivering high quality services to our clients.

      We require a midwife who is passionate about managing and cordinating the Labour ward at Newham University Hospital, ensuring that optimal use is made of available resources to provide appropriate and effective cover over any 24hour period .

      The post-holder will be a registered midwife, able to demonstrate higher level clinical skills and work independently. You will have sound management skills, resilience and the ability to meet the demands of a busy clinical service. In this role you will be expected to demonstrate passion for promoting normality, offer women continuity of care / carer to support women in every part of their pregnancy journey as recommended in the Better Births report (2016).

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder carries 24/7 continuing responsibility and accountability for their clinical / working area.Ensure safe and effective clinical practice in self-ensuring knowledge, skills and competencies are current and act as clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge to others.Enhance the woman's experience of care and ensure that the needs of the woman are placed at the centre of care delivery.Manage and develop the performance of the team by ensuring staff are prepared and supported and are competent to practise safely and effectively.Contribute to the delivery of the organisations objectives by working to improve clinical outcomes, increase productivity, efficiency, and quality in care delivery.The post-holder is an autonomous practitioner in normal pregnancy, birth, and the post-natal period and in the care of neonates and is able to detect abnormal conditions in mother and baby, refer to other qualified health professionals appropriately and undertake emergency measures in the absence of medical staff.
