      The Lead DevOps Engineer oversees and leads the activities of the junior DevOps engineers in their departments. He/she is responsible for the automation and configuration management of the business’s infrastructure and provides stable environments for delivery of quality.

      The idea candidate will act as an evangelist and champion the DevOps culture and be the change agent to help to foster a cultural shift in the software delivery process. Along with automation, they will focus on improving communication, collaboration that facilitate iterative improvement.

      This role is Hybrid. You should be located within a committable distance to one of our offices located in Baltimore MD, Charlotte NC, Wilmington DE, Evansville IN, or Dallas/Fort Worth TX. Our colleagues are in the office a minimum of one day a week for dedicated collaboration.

      Responsibilities

      • The DevOps Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing operational support activity on the Cloud Infrastructure SRE team and coaching junior team members. They are accountable for keeping operations across multiple Development teams functioning, which is essential for successful deployments and releases. They utilize DevOps methods and practice such as IaC, to improve the performance of the team.

      • The Lead DevOps Engineer will be involved in creating technology infrastructure, employing automation tools, and maintaining configuration management for multiple groups in the AWS cloud. They will be accountable for conducting training sessions for the junior team members, and others regarding how to build processes wherein the dependencies are showcased in the code. They are also answerable for the architecture and technical leadership of the complete DevOps toolkit and enablement infrastructure.

      • He/She will develop and implement lifecycle infrastructure solutions and will collaborate with development and other cross functional teams to keep their operations on schedule.

      • He/She will design and develop tool chains for managing and applying DevOps principles, such as CI/CD automation and IaC (Infrastructure as Code).

      • He/She will evaluate and implement new frameworks to boost the team's productivity.

      • The DevOps Lead Engineer will be required to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices via research, courses, and execute new techniques which could be reused and applied to any software development project.

      What will set you apart:

      • Mastery of AWS – understanding of all major service offerings from Amazon Web Services (EC2, RDS, S3, EKS, Lambda, IAM, EBS, EFS), selecting the right services, sizing and configuring them correctly (IOPS, compute, storage) for the work to be done, as well as being able to diagnose issues that may arise with AWS services.

      • Security experience - VPN, SSL, work with security advisors (first level for any security threats, white/black box evaluation/pen tests).

      • Familiarity with Git workflows and branching strategies (e.g. GitOps, Git Flow, etc.).

      • Mastery of Jenkins orchestration tool for CI/CD along with Groovy language.

      • Data management experience (SQL and NoSQL DBs, AWS RDS).

      • Experience with reliability engineering - monitoring, logging, and alerting.

      Basic Qualifications

      • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or other related scientific or technical discipline with 10+ years related professional experience.

      • 7+ years of experience in these or similar tools/tech Bash, Python, Java, Golang, Git, Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, Kubernetes, Helm, Puppet, Chef, Ansible

      • Expert level experience with Terraform (this is a key requirement!)

      • Experience with dev tools - yarn, NPM, GitHub, JIRA.

      • Experience with containerization tools - Kubernetes, Helm, Docker.

      • Ability to work independently, learn quickly, and be proactive. As the leader of a team of one (for now) you’ll need to prioritize tasks, communicate requirements and blockers, and take on tasks as they arise.

      Target base salary range is $160k - $180k, which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive additional compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
