- Perform all aspects of installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic plant within the Telecommunication and Control Networks (e.g routers, radios, multiplexers, RTUs, fiber and 48Vdc equipment).
- Be familiar with the function of the Transmission and Distribution systems (e.g. reclosers, breakers, transformers, controls, protective relaying, thermal and hydro equipment.)
- Be responsible to assist and support the supervisor with leading and directing a highly skilled work team on a daily basis and may be assigned “acting” duties of the supervisor in his/her absence from time to time.
- Be responsible to promote safety, environmental awareness, teamwork, and work efficiency.
- Be expected to participate in continuous improvement activities and to support all aspects of the work planning process.
- You may be required to travel throughout the province for work related to maintenance, reliability and customer restoration.
- Be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
- Be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
- Be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
- You must process a Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology with eligibility for membership with TechNova.
- You must have at least five (5) years experience associated with the installation and maintaining telecommunication equipment.
- You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
- You must be proficient with troubleshooting electrical/electronic equipment and software use and programming in an industrial setting.
- You have experience with up to 240 Vac and 129 Vdc, including working with batteries. You must have previous experience working with microwave radio, fibre optics, multiplexers, mobile radio, telephony, SCADA systems, and be familiar with LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, SNMP and VOIP technologies.
- You have demonstrated leadership skills, are a strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
- Previous experience with communication, control, SCADA RTU/PLC equipment related to utility and substation equipment would be an asset.
- If no qualified candidates apply, consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to complete an apprenticeship program within Nova Scotia Power.
- You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience and provide a driver’s abstract satisfactory to NSPI.

We are currently looking for a Leading Electrical Technician (Telecom) to join our T&D Technical Services team in a permanent position reporting to the Sr. Telecom Operations Engineer.
Accountabilities:
As a member of the T&D Technical Services team, you will:
Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters, and you will be available for after-hour emergency service including rotational standby duty.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
