      The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is committed to supporting students as they access their learning potential when given equitable opportunities in inclusive and responsive environments. The program offers one-on-one and small group remediation as well as academic support that is fully integrated with each student’s academic program with a focus on advocacy. As a member of the LRC, learning specialists are assigned a case load of students (K-12) and work with individuals or small groups on identified learning needs. Learning specialists also provide classroom enrichment and intervention. As members of the larger school community, learning specialists are expected to work with students and their families, classroom teachers, and administrators to implement learning plans and strategies. The learning specialist serves as a teacher, mentor, and coach to our students. They are an integral part to our student’s success.

      We are seeking a student-centered specialist to join our team for the 2024-2025 academic year.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Provide direct individual or small group services to identified students on a regularly scheduled basis;
      • Collaborate with other school and off-campus professionals working with identified learning needs;
      • Participate in developing and implementing plans for students who qualify for learning specialist services;
      • Write, implement, and monitor goals of students who qualify for learning specialist services;
      • Consult and maintain consistent communication with school personnel, student’s parents, and Director of the Learning Resource Center;
      • Engage in professional growth responsibilities keeping abreast of best practices in learning differences and neurodiversity;
      • Complete treatment notes and progress reports in timely manner and according to school policy;
      • Document all aspects of work with students in accordance with school guidelines;
      • Contribute productively to the school as a whole;
      • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours;
      • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, La Jolla Country Day’s mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior;
      • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

      Position Requirements

      • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree is preferred
      • Board Certified Educational Therapist (BCET) is a plus
      • 2+ experience working as an educational therapist/learning specialist with K-12 students with diagnosed learning differences
      • A passion for education
      • Ability to adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards
      • Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in the area of learning differences including but not limited to dyslexia, dyscalculia, and executive functioning difficulties
      • Demonstrated understanding of Response to Intervention (RTI)
      • Demonstrated ability to teach in the classroom setting
      • Demonstrated ability to teach in 1:1 setting
      • Demonstrated effective communication skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
      • Demonstrated track record of being a team player and community minded
      • Commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse student population
      • Commitment to continued professional growth
      • Excellent time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work independently and problem solve
      • Proficiency with Google Docs and on-line data keeping systems

      All school personnel must successfully complete a fingerprint background check through Live Scan and provide current tuberculosis clearance.

      Salary range: $55,000 - $130,000. The salary offer to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience, training, practical knowledge, and education.
