- Design and coordinate programs that support student retention, academic success, and individualized support throughout the medical school and physician assistant curricula.
- Programming for USMLE and NBME exam preparation for the MD students and PANCE preparation for the PA students.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive program for identifying and supporting academically at-risk students.
- Work with individual students to assess learning needs, strengths, and weaknesses and develop individual academic learning plans to support student success.
- Design & lead small & large group sessions/workshops in the areas of effective learning & study strategies, enhance clinical reasoning & knowledge organization, time mgmt, test prep, test taking skills, self-assessment & other areas of academic concern.
- Manage and continually improve comprehensive peer tutoring program that includes training and mentoring of tutors and program development. Track and report program outcomes and quality measures.
- Evaluate current peer mentor programs and assess needs for additional program; work with student peers to ensure appropriate training; manage and provide ongoing monitoring of these programs.
- Review course and clerkship materials, including textbooks, websites, practice examinations, and other media for effective student assistance.
- Ensure that students are aware of learning tools and resources provided by Weill Cornell and Cornell University.
- Collaborate with other offices, programs, and departments within Weill Cornell and affiliate sites to provide comprehensive support to medical students and to develop and implement systems for monitoring the academic progress of students.
- Provide referrals to other internal and external services, including to the office of Disability Access Office, Mental Health services, career advising, and medical consultation as appropriate.
- Maintain student records in compliance with FERPA and keep accurate documentation of session, meetings, and other communication as appropriate.
- Compile and analyze data that speak to the use of services and outcomes of interventions; regularly provide reports of outcomes to interested offices and individuals. Participate as required in CQI efforts of Medical Education.
- Participate in organizations (e.g., Medical Education Learning Specialists national group), conferences, & collaborations with other institutions to stay informed of best practices in student support and current research related to the science of learning.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Master's Degree in Education, Educational Psychology, or equivalent experience.
- Doctorate degree (PhD or EdD) in Education or Educational Psychology preferred.

Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Associate Dean, Student Affairs, t he Learning Specialist will provide individual support to medical students and physician assistant students; additionally, group level support through workshop sessions in the areas of adult learning, remediation, academic enhancement, time management, and knowledge organization will be developed and provided. A significant portion of time will be dedicated to providing academic support for students in preparation for licensure exams and nationally benchmarked exams. This position will work within the Office of Student Affairs.
The Learning Specialist does not need to be an expert in science or medicine, but does need a strong background in learning sciences, academic support in higher education, and a thorough understanding of the unique pressures and expectations of clinical education. In addition to meeting with students and preparing and presenting workshops sessions, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with the Academic Affairs, Curriculum, Student Affairs, and other offices within medical education, programs, and departments within the Weill Cornell Medicine and across the College to aid in the academic progress of students. This will include maintaining student records in compliance with FERPA and keeping accurate documentation of sessions, meetings, and other communication as appropriate.Job Responsibilities

Minimum Requirments:
- 3 years of experience in academic support in higher education, including developing academic interventions and large group programming.
- Knowledge and experience in learning theory, teaching methodologies, coaching, and project management.
- Experience using outcome measures to drive continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated experience working in large, highly structured environments.
Preferred:
- Experience in academic support in a medical school, health professions program, or similar high-stakes and challenging curriculum.
- Familiarity of quantitative and qualitative research methodology and its application to education.
- Familiarity with standardized examinations that apply to medical students, (i.e., MCAT, USMLE, etc.)

- Computer proficiency with word processing and databases in a Windows and/or Mac environment.
