      This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

      The primary purpose of the Leave Administration Consultant position is to advise employees on leave policies, processes and compliance related to various types of leave like family and medical leave, sick and vacation time, military leave, etc. ensuring compliance with relevant laws (i.e. FMLA, ADA, etc.), state regulations, the UNC System Code and Policy Manual, and university leave policies and procedures while managing leave cases and providing support to employees, supervisors, and HR Representatives throughout the leave process.

      The Leave Administration Consultant acts as a subject matter expert on employee leave policies by reviewing leave requests, determining eligiblity, consulting on leave policies and procedures, the required documentation, and the leave application process. This position entails handling confidential information and sensitive matters and managing complex leave cases, including medical documentation review, communication with healthcare providers.

      The Leave Administration Consultant must maintain accurate and detailed leave records, including documentation of leave requests, approvals, and communication with employees. Collaboration with various departments, including other HR Teams, Payroll Services, Equal Opportunity and Compliance, the Office of University Counsel, and healthcare providers, is essential to coordinate the leave and return-to-work processes. The Leave Administration Consultant is also responsible for coordinating with external stakeholders, including the State Health Plan, UNC System's Office, North Carolina Retirement System's Division, and disability plan vendors.

      The Leave Administration Consultant provides guidance to employees regarding retirement, health, and other benefits associated with absences, including health, dental, vision, and income protection plans, as well as Worklife wellness programs. Additionally, this role supports departmental and divisional initiatives.

      The Leave Administration Consultant helps employees navigate benefits and leave processes and effectively communicates changes to benefits and leave programs, policies, and procedures to campus. Key responsibilities include policy interpretation and administration, compliance, consultation, communication, case management, problem-solving, delivering benefits and leave training and presentations, developing standard operating procedures, updating communication materials, and preparing reports as needed.
