Position: Full-time, 12 month, non-tenure accruing faculty position

Date of Expected Hire: July 1, 2024. Negotiable based on the successful candidate’s availability

Salary: $65,000-$72,000 Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Eligible for a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.

The School of Theatre and Dance in the College of the Arts seeks a 12-month Lecturer in Stage Management for a promotion accruing (non-tenure accruing) faculty position. The successful applicant will join the faculty as the school’s Production Stage Manager and work closely with the Producing Director/Senior Lecturer in Stage Management and all artistic and production team members in mentoring the management of productions and processes within a vibrant educational performance season. The Lecturer in Stage Management will contribute as an educator in the stage management curriculum while mentoring 15-20 undergraduate student stage managers in approximately 28 opportunities each season. The School’s 12 month Production schedule has historically included 7 theatre productions, 3 dance productions, and 2-4 lightly produced student showcases over a 12-month production calendar. The Lecturer in Stage Management will be an effective mentor who balances the demands of production with pedagogical realities and navigates complex channels of communication between faculty choreographers and directors, faculty design mentors, faculty and staff production/technology specialists, guest artists, students in design and production roles, and student performers.

Responsibilities:

• Function as Production Stage Manager for the school’s various productions, overseeing and mentoring students as stage managers, deck stage managers, and production assistants through all phases of production processes.
• Function as the Production stage manager for 1-2 educational productions per year
• Embed principles of pluralism, curiosity, open intellectual discourse, and the well-being of all in the context of cultural and ideological differences in all aspects of production processes
• Teach 2-3 undergraduate courses per semester, including shared instruction in Introduction to Live Entertainment and practicum courses.
• Oversee audition processes for theatre productions.
• Share responsibilities of attending and overseeing technical rehearsals, additional critical rehearsals, and meetings with the school’s Producing Director/Senior Lecturer in Stage Management
• Occasional facilitation of regular production meetings
• Serve on School committees and working groups as assigned.
• Contribute to recruitment efforts for the school’s newly established BA emphasis in stage management.
  

  SCHOOL OF THEATRE + DANCE: The light-filled Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion is home to the School of Theatre + Dance (SoTD). The School’s international full-time faculty of more than 35 recognized artists and researchers, complemented by adjunct and guest faculty and staff, including full- and part-time professionals. The School offers MFA curricula in acting and in design, which include scene design, lighting design, and costume design; BFA programs in acting, musical theatre, and theatrical production with concentrations in costume, digital media, lighting, scenic, and sound; and a BA with concentrations in general theatre, stage management, and theatre management. The School features two degree programs in dance designed to develop the individual voice of the dance artist, a BFA and a BA. Approximately 200 students major in the artistically diverse curricula of the School of Theatre + Dance. Through its production program, outreach and innovative programming, the School of Theatre + Dance provides multiple cultural opportunities annually to thousands of members of the University and the greater community. • MFA in stage management, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of professional experiences and skills.
• Experience in teaching and/or mentoring beyond graduate assistantship.
• Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances pluralism, curiosity, open intellectual discourse, and the well-being of all in the context of cultural and ideological differences.
• Strong organizational, management, and communication skills

• Three or more years as a stage manager in a professional setting
• Demonstrated consistent success working in an environment that advances pluralism, curiosity, open intellectual discourse, and the well-being of all in the context of cultural and ideological differences.
• Demonstrated commitment to education as a vehicle for personal and social transformation.
• Evidence of a commitment to emerging technologies and innovative practices.
• Membership in Actors’ Equity Association or American Guild of Musical Artists.
