      Job Summary:

      The English Department in the School of Liberal Arts at Marist College invites applications for a Lecturer of English to begin in August 2024. Candidates should be able to teach a variety of undergraduate literature and composition courses. Candidates who can teach some combination of courses in speculative fiction, graphic novels and comics, and children’s and young adult literature are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates will teach our First Year Seminar and Writing for College courses regularly, and candidates will have opportunities to teach courses in our Honors Program. Candidates who have experience or interest in teaching with service learning or community-based writing pedagogy are particularly welcome. Candidates must demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and candidates may be able to work with one of many interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, American Studies, Global Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and/or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates is required.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      A master’s degree in English or similar degree is required. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college level is also required.

      Essential Functions:

      The teaching load will be 4-4 with a mix of introductory and advanced courses. Lecturers need to be active in their professional field, and participate regularly in service activities for our students, Marist College, and the community.

      • Tuition Benefits:
        • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
        • College pays 100% tuition only.
        • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

      About the Department/School:

      The English Department at Marist College includes 17 faculty and offers a BA in English with concentrations in literature, writing, and theatre. The department also offers well-enrolled minors in creative writing, professional writing, literature, and theatre. The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts which includes 55 full-time faculty and over 75 part-time faculty. The School of Liberal Arts includes departments in English, history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science, and many interdisciplinary programs such as American Studies, Africana Studies, and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. In addition, the ABA approved Paralegal Studies Program and the Pre-Law Program are part of the School of Liberal Arts. The School of Liberal Arts also houses the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership, the Hudson River Valley Institute, the Weiss Language Center, the Writing Center, and the Marist Theatre Program.
