Enter felony and misdemeanor cases in systems including fugitive and extradition matters.
Receive and process Expungement requests.
Run criminal history records from various law enforcement data systems and analyze as requested.
Respond to questions from victims, witnesses, attorneys, outside agencies and others in a culturally appropriate manner regarding procedures and case status, while following standard procedures, regulations and office policies.
Issue subpoenas for records or witnesses as needed and cover subpoena clerks positions as requested.
Prepare court orders, draft orders from attorney’s notes, proofread orders and file following policy and procedures.
Investigate facts related to situations and claims using case management and other systems to determine next legal steps needed or problem solve questions or complaints regarding cases and legal actions.
May also be called upon to assist with projects that require resourcefulness, independent judgment, analysis of varied data, and other needed information.
The ability to maintain confidentiality and work under strict timelines are essential.
Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade; AND
Three years of general clerical experience.
Five years of responsible legal clerical experience, including three years of legal assistant experience working within a district attorney, county counsel, or relevant legal office.
Basic working knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the criminal or judicial system, and some knowledge of legal terminology and legal databases.
Bilingual highly preferred (will require a language proficiency exam)
Advanced knowledge of data systems such as RegJIN, LEDS, NCIC, Odyssey, CRIMES and Microsoft Word.
LEDS Certification, knowledge of and/or experience using legal terminology is highly desirable.
Candidates must successfully pass a thorough criminal background check and post -offer urine drug screen.

As a Legal Assistant 2, you must have the ability to organize and prioritize work with accuracy and detail, applying well developed subject knowledge, and exercising judgment and initiative. You may also be expected to have the knowledge, skills and abilities to cover other positions from OA 2 up to Legal Assistant Sr. Our staff work together as a cohesive team under pressure and must be flexible, able and willing to fill in on short notice. This position may require you to resolve issues when a supervisor is not available. This position acts as a technical resource and trainer to other staff including attorneys and management and may also act as a team lead in certain positions.
Your main responsibilities includes, but are not limited to the following:
