- Performs full paralegal and administrative duties for legal staff in the Legal Support Services Division.
- Conducts complex legal research.
- Proofreads legal documents and makes corrections.
- Gathers information and data and performs basic professional level analysis. Recommends actions and participates in the implementation of programs, policies or other professional activities.
- Prepares case files for hearing and assists attorneys during court presentations. Maintains and updates case and other files.
- Drafts pleadings, orders, notices, and correspondence.
- Communicates with various attorneys and appropriate staff or general public related to case information.
- Documents and maintains required records and statistics in case management databases.
- Ensures compliance with any or all applicable laws, statutes, regulations, policies and update staff on applicable changes.
- Interfaces with court staff to generate court dockets and schedule hearings.
- Gathers information for reports. Prepares and produces periodic management or special reports.
- Notarizes documents and obtain copies of documents from court as needed.
- Directs, assists, or trains clerical/support staff as needed.
- Recommends and develops departmental procedures as needed.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Paralegal certificate, Associate's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Three (3) years of Full-Time legal work experience.
- Specialized training in the areas of legal writing, and legal research.
Performs complex and highly specialized support duties involving legal terminology and judicial processes. The Legal Assistants’ responsibilities may include case preparation, which consists of preparing subpoenas, motions, and notices and conducting complex legal research. This position is responsible for preparing and requesting evidentiary documents and assisting with presentations, including orientations and workshops. The duties of the Legal Assistant will vary according to assignment.
