      Community Law S.C. is a small law firm located in Downtown Madison, WI. We provide primarily criminal defense services, working with individuals that often lack access to quality legal representation.       Qualifications:

      Enrolled at University of Wisconsin-Madison
      Must be awarded Work Study through Financial Aid
      Interested in legal studies, specifically criminal defense. Experience with legal professions preferred.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      Experience managing calendars and deadlines
      Ability to accurately communicate with individuals in person and over the phone in English
      Proficiency with basic computer applications, such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word
      Good organizational skills
      Ability to handle multiple activities and projects, and work under pressure
      Willingness to learn quickly

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      We are looking for a legal assistant to ensure smooth running of the office and effective case management. You will assist with a broad spectrum of legal and administrative services under the supervision of an attorney.

      Responsibilities:
      Provide administrative support to lawyers
      Handle communication with clients, witnesses etc. as needed
      Administratively support and attend trials as needed
      Locate and develop case relevant information
      Draft and file basic legal documents and correspondence
      Answer and direct phone calls
      Maintain contact lists
      Monitor deadlines and manage multiple calendars

      Physical Demands:

      Work is predominantly performed in an office environment and requires the ability to remain in a stationary position at a desk, move around the office, and operate standard office equipment including computers.
