      Job Summary

      Come work as a Legal Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

      Reporting directly to the General Legal Counsel & Director of Legal Services for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Legal Assistant supports the General Legal Counsel and staff by providing related expertise in the organization, prioritization and administration of all legal files and contracts. Performs general administrative and coordination duties including responding to telephone inquiries, scheduling meetings, filing, and drafting correspondence and reports, and processing of legal counsel invoices.

      As a Legal Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

      • Organize legal material to ensure all relevant information is brought to the attention of the in-house legal counsel.
      • Maintain and organize reference files, contracts and other legal documentation
      • Conduct research for particular issues to identify materials relevant to assigned issues and files.
      • Prepare contracts and other legal documents for perusal and approval of legal counsel on assigned files.
      • Perform general administrative and coordination duties for the office such as basic research, filing, answering telephones and responding to general inquiries or referring to appropriate personnel, and drafting correspondence, minutes, and reports from notes and/or verbal direction.
      • Process all legal counsel invoices, including obtaining internal approvals and ensuring timely payment.

      Qualifications

      Education & Experience

      • Graduation from a recognized Paralegal/Legal Assistant certificate program or equivalent.
      • Minimum of three (3) years’ recent, related legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
      • Paralegal experience in preparation and management of contracts preferred.

      Knowledge & Abilities

      • Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology, principles, precedents, procedures and research methods.
      • Basic understanding of health care legislation and regulatory framework
      • Sound knowledge of basic contract law and drafting experience.
      • Strong knowledge and utilization of current wordprocessing and spreadsheet computer applications.
      • Demonstrates intermediate to advanced competency in legal research and writing skills.
      • Effectively works independently and in a team setting.
      • Demonstrates excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing for a variety of audiences.

      Closing Statement

      As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
