      About the role

      This role will work with the Country counsel in Italy in cooperation with the rest of the legal team.

      This role will be a critical contributor to look after insurance products and distribution schemes to be launched in Italy in the coming months according to the AIG Europe strategy in Italy aimed at pursuing new market opportunities where AIG will lead ahead of competition. Further, the new resource will deal with company secretariat and controls over the distribution networks (including the relationship with the Italian and Luxemburg regulators).

      The responsibilities for this role include:

      - provide promptly and commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical high-quality legal support and advice in a cost-effective manner to the business stakeholders in Italy.

      - provide support and guidance to the Italian operation and the wider legal function with regards to legal risks.

      - proactively advise the Italian operation and the wider legal function on the impact of regulatory and legislative developments and ensuring that any such developments are adequately reflected in transaction documentation and businesses processes.

      - support the head of legal in all the activities of drafting or reviewing insurance contracts, insurance distribution contracts, pre-contractual documentation, marketing materials.

      - support with corporate secretariat activity for the various AIG entities established into Italy.

      - coordinate outside legal on key projects under supervision and in line with the local head of legal.

      - maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within the country operation and the wider GLCR team.

      - advise on, and negote, non-claims disputes (although the role is primarily non-contentious).

      - support Regulatory and the local Head of Legal in dealing with the relationship with regulators and trade associations.

      - support to the legal department on any other matters related to the function, including support to GLCR’s COE, when requested. (including dealing with labor law, data protection law and competition law issues).

      What we’re looking for:

      - Law degree; qualification to the Italian bar;
      - Previous experience in law firms or in the in house legal department of companies;
      - demonstrates an enthusiasm for working in an in-house insurance legal team;
      - Applies skills to address new types of contracts, queries or issues;
      - Experience in drafting commercial contracts;
      - Proficiency in English language;
      - Very good organizational skills;
      - Ability to work in a team environment;
      - Initiative and problem-solving skills.
