      The Legislative Liaison plays a key role in leading the department’s Office of Legislative Affairs. The Liaison is the primary contact responsible for management of the department’s legislative relationships, including serving as the point of outreach to legislators and staff and coordinator of legislative assignments. The position assists in coordinating, planning, and managing legislative activities impacting the department. This position also assists policy makers in developing and refining policy initiatives.

      Key duties of the Legislative Liaison include:

      1. Lead the department’s legislative program and maintain strong working relationships with the Governor’s staff, legislators, legislative staff, department staff, other state agencies, lobbyists, advocates, and other key stakeholders to advance department priorities.
      2. Coordinate strategic planning around complicated policy issues and politically sensitive district issues.
      3. Communicate and keep executive leadership, office leads, and division directors apprised of legislation affecting the department.
      4. Analyze legislative proposals that directly affect the department and recommend policy solutions to executive leadership, Governor’s office staff, and legislators.
      5. Assist in answering complex and politically sensitive constituent inquiries.
      6. Represent the department in legislative committees, as well as present to stakeholders and interest groups on department priorities and initiatives.
      7. Coordinate and assist in the planning of site visits, legislative outreach events, and department activities.
      8. Perform other duties as assigned.

      Required Education
      Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
      Experience
      At least two years of experience working in the policy, legal, environmental, or governmental affairs fields.

      Salary and Benefits: The Legislative Liaison will be compensated as an unclassified, at-will member of state government. This is a defined contribution position. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 depending on education and experience levels.
