      Performs a wide variety of project coordination and legislative support work for TxDOT Government Affairs Division. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Work requires extensive contact with TxDOT districts, divisions, governmental officials, and private entities. Works with Government Affairs Business Operations Manager, Directors of State Legislative Affairs and Federal Affairs Sections. Reports to the Director of the Government Affairs Division. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objective. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

      Essential Duties:

      • Analyzes incoming legislative correspondence, reports and other materials related to administrative areas; monitor and report on legislative hearings and floor action; coordinates with appropriate personnel to initiate proper action.
      • Performs the duties of a State and Federal Relations Representative as needed to support the division during extended absences or vacancies.
      • Attends meetings, provides analysis, written summary and debriefing of a meeting's activities to Government Affairs Division staff and/or Administration.
      • Researches and compiles information to assist the state and federal Government Affairs Division staff with a variety of projects, presentations, and correspondence.
      • Assists Government Affairs Division staff with speeches, policy research, internal and external meeting coordination and execution, and correspondence.
      • Collects and summarizes legislative related information from staff, local partners, subject matter experts and other relevant sources.
      • Provides updates to the Director of the Government Affairs Division on significant department events, projects, and programs.
      • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      Education: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

      Experience: 2 years project, program, or legislative coordination, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

      • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

      Licenses and Certifications:

      • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

      • Applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations specific to area of responsibility for safeguarding information and information technology related systems

      • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports
      • Producing high-level analysis including research (technical, legal, federal and state legislative, and public sources), writing, verbal communication and presentations
      • Interpreting and analyzing legislation, rules, and regulations
      • Using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
      • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
      • Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals

      Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

      • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
      • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
      • Standing-prolonged periods of time
      • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
      • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
