      GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


      The Wyoming State Library is looking for a creative, outgoing self-starter with a love of history and research to fill the Federal Documents Librarian position. This position manages the Wyoming State Library’s Federal Depository Library Program. This includes selecting, organizing, and the promotion of U.S. federal government materials. This position processes tangible publications using the SUDOCS classification system. The position will work to increase accessibility to specialized collections through inclusion in the WYLD database. The Federal Documents Librarian also discovers Wyoming published federal documents and ensures that they are easily accessible via the WSL Digital Content Suite.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


      • Manages the State Library’s Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) collection and ensures compliance with federal depository regulations.
      • Selects government documents, physical and digital, including annual item updates, for the federal documents collection.
      • Ensures depository items are processed in compliance with FDLP and that weeded materials are removed in accordance with depository guidelines.
      • Provides research assistance, such as specialized training, conducting and creating online webinars, and one-on-one training, focusing on government documents and electronic government information.
      • Maintains current awareness of the developments in the FDLP and disseminates this information to the State Librarian and the Information Services Manager.
      • Plans, develops, and manages the Wyoming published federal documents in the Digital Content Suite. This includes performing metadata manipulation and organization.
      • Works collaboratively with managers of other Digital Content Suite libraries in order to establish continuity across our online collections.
      • Works with other state library staff to develop, maintain, and promote services that help state employees perform their jobs.
      • Responds to a wide range of complex and basic inquiries and requests for information from all types of constituents.
      • Provides service desk support, responds to reference questions for state agencies, libraries, and the general public using a variety of electronic and print resources.


      PREFERENCES:


      Preference will be given to applicants with a Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS).
      Preference will be given to experience in performing reference interviews, state document research, federal document research, library instruction, outreach, and/or metadata manipulation and organization.


      KNOWLEDGE:


      • Knowledge of library science, including reference services and information management.
      • Knowledge of the structure and organization of bibliographic records and databases.
      • Knowledge of national library standards and practices (e.g., AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress Authorities, and MARC format).
      • Knowledge of the Superintendent of Documents (SuDocs) classification system.
      • Knowledge of the original cataloging of unique publications of government documents.
      • Knowledge of data collection and data analysis.
      • Knowledge of governments and their organization.
      • Knowledge of project management in both individual and team environments.


      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education:
      Bachelor's Degree (typically in Library Science)
      Experience:
      0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Library Science)
      OR
      Education & Experience Substitution:
      3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Library Science)
      Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
      None
