T his recruitment will be used to fill one (1) vacancy at the Red Mountain Library Branch, for a Youth Services Librarian and one (1) vacancy at the soon-to-open Gateway Library Branch, for an Adult Services Librarian. The eligible list created from this opening may be used to fill future Librarian I vacancies in Youth, Teen, or Adult Services at any branch location.
A Librarian I is responsible for the application of the full scope of basic professional library knowledge and techniques. Employees perform the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this entry-level classification, including application of fundamental library science principles and practices. Responsibilities may include one or more of the following: developing and presenting adult, teen, and children’s programming, outreach, social media, digital literacy, and other community building services. In the absence of a supervisor, a Librarian I may be left in charge of Library facilities (for example: evening or weekend hours). Librarian I may also be expected to perform leadership activities as required including being assigned the person in charge. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and accepted library practices and procedures. This class performs related duties as required.
Depending on assignment, supervision may be received from a Librarian III or Branch Coordinator who reviews work through conferences, meetings, reports, and results achieved. Night and weekend work is required. This class is FLSA exempt-professional. Minimum Qualifications Required. Graduation from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, Library Science and Information Studies, or a related field, OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
