- Makes routine library decisions in the absence of a higher-level supervisor
- Guides and supports lower-level staff in daily tasks and procedures
- Delivers excellent customer service to library patrons
- Performs all circulation desk duties, including: Registering new patrons and updating existing records; checking in and out library materials using an automated system; answering telephones, providing information, and transferring calls as needed; collecting fines and resolving account issues
- May be responsible for reconciling the cash register and preparing bank deposits
- Assists patrons with basic needs in the public computer area and with library office equipment
- Assists patrons with locating materials and placing items on hold
- Sorts and shelves circulating library materials

This is a paraprofessional position, working under the general supervision of a higher-level library staff person or supervisor, performing a variety of library tasks requiring knowledge of library practices and procedures.
Education/Experience:
Associate degree or its equivalent, or an equivalent combination of formal education and related working experience. Computer operating skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, and familiarity with the Internet and handheld devices are required.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Good knowledge of general clerical methods and procedures.
Good knowledge of general library methods and procedures.
Knowledge of library materials.
Ability to move heavy carts of books, shelf library materials, lift, stoop, and reach.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to communicate with tact and good judgment.
Ability to enforce library rules and regulations.
Ability to instruct others in the use of library facilities and services.
Ability to learn library systems and practices such as the classification system, machine-readable formats, and bibliographic data correction.
Ability to meet the public and assist them in locating materials of interest.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to keep records and files and compile routine statistical reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Work is performed inside in a library setting.
