Job Description
- Req#: 2105
- Search standard reference materials, including on-line sources and the Internet, in order to answer patrons’ reference questions
- Problem solve patrons’ requests to determine needed information, and assist in furnishing or locating that information
- Provide readers’ advisory services including displays and creative marketing of collections
- Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies
- Assist and train library patrons in information search and retrieval using library databases and online catalogue
- Provide patrons with assistance and instruction in the use of public access computers
- Check books in and out of the library using the automated library system
- Arrange for interlibrary loans of materials which are not locally available
- Perform overdue management functions including contacting patrons about overdue material
- Maintain orderliness of shelved materials; shelve books, periodicals, and newspapers; pull and route materials in need of mending, binding, repairing, or discarding
- Collect and compile data in support of statistical information requirements
- Collect, total, and submit money generated by library and other municipal service fees
- Participate in the development and delivery of new and existing library programs
- Participate in the maintenance of library hardware/software
- In the absence of Customer Service staff, offer limited access to municipal services
- May assist with training, showing others how to perform tasks or duties
- In some branches, emphasis may be placed on specialized areas of library service
- Occasional travel to various work locations is required to fulfill the job duties of the position
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Secondary School Diploma plus additional education in library administration or a related field
- Experience and understanding of electronic library systems and electronic information resources systems
- Commitment to the development and delivery of library programs
- Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
- Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, and the ability to deal with multiple demands
- Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
- Demonstrated ability to understand and abide by municipal policies and procedures
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software and hardware
- Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search will be required
Job Title Library Branch Staff
Wage $24.06 - $26.02 hourly (2023)
Reports To Area Coordinator, Library
Department Community Services
Location South – Lindsay - Reference
Hours Part-time up to 24 hours per week
Other Current hours are approximately 18 hours per week; hours include evenings and weekends; shifts will vary from 3 to 7 hours in length; may be required to work at any South Area Branch, as needed.
