Performs routine mid-level library work. Work involves providing assistance in the daily operation in various areas of the library. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

• Provide customer service to library users in person and on the telephone.
• Answer informational and reference questions for all ages regarding the library's resources; provide directions to various library sections or other facilities.
• Assist patrons in circulation related services, such as establishing and renewing library memberships, inter-library loan requests, and reserving books and collects payments at circulation desk.
• Assist patrons of all ages with technology support including access to library computers; use of online resources; use of computer software available on public computers; and use of photocopier, scanner and fax machine.
• Assist patrons of all ages in navigating the library online catalog.
• Assist in receiving and sorting returned library materials.
• Assist in shelving library materials when needed.
• Assist in processing and receiving new library materials and repairing damaged library material.
• Provide administrative support to librarians for collection development, maintenance and assigned supervisors.
• Attend meetings and training sessions.
• Perform security, light cleaning, and straightening tasks necessary to open and close the library facility.
• Assist in compiling statistics relating to various programs and services; and preparing communications, reports, and mailings.
• Assist in library outreach and marketing.
• Provide support for library programs by designing, preparing promotional materials, monthly book displays and setting up and cleaning up program spaces, and assisting during events.
• Ability to work under pressure with few mistakes.
• Exceptional customer service must be a high priority.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma, or its equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of customer service experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• First Aid/CPR training certificate required, or ability to obtain the certificate within six months of hire.
• Reliable form of transportation to and from work.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

• Two or more years of experience working in Library Services or a Bookstore.

• Familiarity of municipal library operations, library technology systems, and the Dewey Decimal System.
• Ability to organize and maintain a large number of materials, attention to detail, understand and follow instructions, and demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
• Deliver quality customer service, accurately process materials and enter data into computer, process and repair books, and use standard word processing and data inquiry software.
• Analyze situations and adopt quick effective and reasonable courses of action, ability to work creatively, independently and cooperatively with others.
• Possess ability to read and comprehend operation and training manuals, memos, policies and procedures.
• Possess ability to write reports including words, numbers, abbreviations and note taking.
• Able to plan, organize and manage multi-faceted programs.
• Experience in using computer, collection, calculator, telephone, tape recorder, fax machine, and copier.

On occasion, may need to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; pull, push or drag up to 50 pounds of materials and supplies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to feel; climb or balance; stoop or kneel, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
