The City of Lynchburg is an Equal Opportunity EmployerThis is a two-part position at the Lynchburg Public Library. The successful candidate will serve as the library’s primary social media and marketing professional as well as providing excellent customer service as a paraprofessional in a busy Library environment. As a social media and marketing professional, the successful candidate will be expected to promote the library’s mission, services, programs and collections via media related platforms in order to encourage engagement and enhance use of the library. Candidate must be able to work independently and alone when scheduled to perform the following duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.Social Media and Marketing Duties:
· Familiar with the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
· Incorporates national library campaigns (i.e. National Library Week) and national observances (i.e. Black History Month) into library initiatives.
· Develops awareness of trends in library services and of issues affecting libraries.
· Develops content related to the library's short term and long-term goals.
· Must be able to adhere to the integrity of the library's brand and understand the library's message.
· Take initiative to learn and understand what is appropriate for our audience and be versed on social media trends and platforms.
· Photograph library events, activities, services and more for website, social media graphics, and printed material
· Responds to comments, questions, and messages across social media platforms in a timely manner.
· Candidate must have own transportation and be able to travel to all library locations/events as needed.
· Managing content output and social media accounts of our department;
· Monitor the engagement on our social media accounts, communicate with customers, and identify content opportunities that create buzz around our activities and programs;
· Managing budgets for social media advertising;
· Growing our social media communities;
· Analyzing trends and target audiences;
· Assists with department photography and video production to highlight library staff, patrons, programs and services.
Library Related Duties:
• Provides general library services at public desks, including registering patrons, checking materials in and out, placing holds, collecting fines, etc. while using an automated library system.
• Assists patrons with use of public access terminal, including Internet searches, and with photocopies;
• Performs reader's advisory service;
• Answers informational and directional questions by telephone or in person;
• Shelves books;
• Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
• When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred with work experience in marketing, journalism, public relation, communications, or other related field.
Library, bookstore, museum or other relevant customer service experience preferred. • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Canva, and internet use, as well as the ability to demonstrate such abilities.
• Impeccable writing and grammar skills to effectively communicate information and ideas
• Deep interest in the constantly changing social media algorithms;
• Extensive knowledge of social media platforms; and their use in business
• Experience using analytics tools, such as Facebook Insights and Google Analytics;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Available to work all the hours the library is open, including evenings and SaturdaysAbout the company
