      Job Title: Library Media Facilitator

      Reports to: Principal

      Dept./School: Matthey Middle School

      Wage/Hour Status: Non Exempt

      Pay Grade: CT4 / 187 Days

      Primary Purpose:

      Manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as materials expert, and facilitator to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      Associates degree in Multi Media Technology, Communication or Education related area preferred

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      Knowledge of library science

      Ability to instruct and manage student behavior

      Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

      Experience:

      Two years’ experience in library/media center or

      Two years’ experience as classroom teacher assistant/aide in a public school setting preferred

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      General

      1. Demonstrates thoroughness, reliability and a high degree of accuracy in performing work assignments.
      2. Works cooperatively with others and maintains a positive attitude in the work environment.
      3. Demonstrates initiative and good judgment in problem solving and decision-making.
      4. Reports promptly and maintains good attendance.
      5. Uses time productively on the job.
      6. Follows district policies, rules and regulations.
      7. Accepts supervisory direction.
      8. Strives to improve job skills.
      9. Demonstrates tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors in the district.

      Instruction

      1. Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques.
      2. Assist teacher in use of technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
      3. Assist teachers with finding appropriate materials available in library for classroom instruction.
      4. Serve as information resource for users of library/media center materials.

      Library Programs

      1. Effectively plan school library program to meet identified needs.
      2. Plan an organize book fair as directed by campus administration.
      3. Assist in preparation of bibliographies and curriculum guides.
      4. Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources.
      5. Coordinate development and maintenance of community resource file.
      6. Maintain schedules for instructional television programs and encourage use of video programs for educational purposes.
      7. Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
      8. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

      Student Management

      1. Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward school library.

      Administration

      1. Compile, budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
      2. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
      3. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the library/media services area
      4. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings.
      5. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

      Communication

      1. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
      2. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
      3. Communicate regularly with principal and district-wide library coordinator regarding library services issues.

      Supervisory Responsibilities:

      Supervise student aides and volunteers.

      Working Conditions:

      Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

      Maintain emotional control under stress. Climbing, stretching, frequent light lifting of books, boxes.
