What You'll Do
The Library Senior Information Assistant will engage the community by providing exceptional customer service while assisting the public in the use of the Library. This includes managing customer accounts, retrieving library materials, checking items in and out, offering assistance and instruction on equipment and technology and managing workflow to accomplish duties in an efficient and responsive manner. This position requires regular evening and weekend shifts and involves a significant amount of physical activity.
The Library Senior Information Assistant works under the supervision of a Circulation Services Supervisor and Branch Manager.
This position may include day, evening and weekend hours. There is currently 1 opening for a full-time position at the Wentworth Library. This list of eligible candidates may be used to fill current and future Senior Information Assistant openings for a period of up to 3 months.

1. Perform public service dutiesa. Answer questions from the public in person, over the telephone and electronically2. Facilitate movement of materials
b. Explain clearly Library policies and procedures
c. Assist customers in managing their Library accounts including explaining charges and collecting fines and fees
d. Create and update customer accounts
e. Check in and check out library materials
f. Assist customers with the use of library facilities, equipment, and technology.
g. Assist customers in locating materialsa. Unpack and sort delivery3. Work on specialized tasks
b. Unload book return bins
c. Search collection for requested materials and process accordingly
d. Shelve Library materialsa. Process new materials, replace barcodes and security tags on existing materials4. Attend training sessions as approved or assigned by the supervisor

5. Participate on County and Library committees

Work Environment
Work is performed within a County library system. Operation of office equipment such as personal computers, telephone, photocopier and printers. Occasional lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds, pulling and/or pushing book carts, exerting force to up 50 pounds. Frequent standing, bending, twisting, stretching, crouching, reaching (forward and overhead) and grasping. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation due to high concentration of book handling and computer work. The successful candidate will complete a physical exam as part of the preemployment process.
