      The Library Specialist I will be responsible for assisting the Collections Care Coordinator and Cushing curators with caring for the collections in the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives. This position will assist with rehousing collection materials, collection accountability, space planning/shifting projects and stacks/workroom maintenance.       What You Need to Know

      Starting Salary: $15.85 per hour

      Required Education and Experience:

      • High school diploma or equivalent

      • One year of related library or office experience

      Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

      • Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book carts or similar items

      • Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores

      • Knowledge of email, spreadsheet applications and library online research database searches and/or processing

      • Good interpersonal skills

      • Reliable attendance

      • Excellent communication and customer service skills

      Physical Requirements:

      • Ability to work in temperatures that range between 64-67 degrees

      • Valid vehicle operator’s license and good driving record

      • May operate a motor vehicle for collection movement

      Responsibilities:

      • Space Planning and Collection Shifting: Assists with space planning and collection shifting projects to accommodate growth in Cushing and our remote storage facility. Performs collection shifting projects. Assists with Cushing’s A-Z reorganization project. May use a vehicle for collection movement.

      • Collections Care: Assists the Collections Care Coordinator, University Archivist, and curators with routine collections care. Coordinates weekly transfer of materials between locations. Rehouses collection materials using the approved preservation standards. Monitors Cushing processing supplies and informs the Collections Care Coordinator when and what replacement supplies need to be ordered.

      • Collections Accountability: Assists with the accountability for collection materials. Assists with shelving collection materials. Tracks mis-shelved items and refers problems to appropriate staff members. Updates existing records as needed in Cushing’s collection database AtoM. Assists with Cushing exhibit preparation and maintenance.

      • Collection Stacks and Workroom Maintenance: Assists with collection stacks and workroom maintenance. Checks for proper shelving of Cushing’s collections materials. Monitors library spaces and reports and addresses threats to materials.

      • Team Participation: Collaborates with Cushing and Preservation employees to provide best service possible to donors and library users. Participates and attends special events, library and unit meetings, trainings, and performs other duties as assigned.
