      Job Summary:

      The Campus Libraries are pleased to announce openings for a Full-Time Library Technician I position in the Access Services department. Although the incumbent will work primarily at the Social Science, Humanities and Education Library in Charles Hall, they may also be assigned to other branches within the Ontario Tech library system. The incumbent in this position will provide outstanding customer service and be responsible for a variety of daily library operations including circulation, reference, equipment troubleshooting, shelving, shelf reading, report processing, display installation, and assisting with various projects. This position will report to the Social Science, Humanities and Education Librarian.

      Shifts may be assigned during any regular library opening hours including evenings and weekends. This position includes an evening shift once a week and Saturdays once a month.

      Responsibilities/accountabilities:

      • Customer Service: Delivers excellent service through consistent application of library procedures, with a positive customer service attitude. Greets, assists, follows up, directs, informs, listens, maintains positive relationships, responds to inquiries in person, via phone and email, acts as a first point of contact in the library
      • Circulation Services: Charges, discharges and renews library material; issues and updates library cards. Provides general assistance including providing information concerning library procedures and policies; assists patrons with completing request forms, processes reports and maintains daily statistics
      • Reference Services: Assists students, faculty, staff and community borrowers with front-line reference queries; demonstrates the use of the Library’s print and electronic resources and associated equipment
      • Material, Facility, and Equipment Maintenance: Contributes to the overall upkeep and maintenance of the libraries’ facilities, equipment and materials, prepares for opening/closing, creates and posts signage as necessary
      • Other duties may include installing displays, participating in student fairs and contributing to other team or individual projects, etc.

      Required Skills:

      • Demonstrated strong customer service attitude and skills
      • Ability to work with internal and external patrons with tact and discretion
      • Proven ability to resolve problems and work in teams
      • Ability to safely lift library material, push loaded book carts, shelve library material, and service printers
      • Reliable, punctual and committed to the assigned shift days and times
      • Able to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
      • Excellent organizational, written and oral communication, and attention to detail skills
      • Able to handle different tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
      • Able to adapt quickly to changing responsibilities and duties
      • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of office-based computer applications, e-mail and the Internet

      Required Education:

      • Minimal requirement is completion of one year of a two-year Library Techniques community college diploma
      • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

      * Verification of Academic credentials may be required

      Required Experience:

      • Minimum one-year experience in a customer service environment required
      • Library experience preferred
      • Experience working with an Integrated Library System, knowledge of Circulation policies and procedures and/or responding to Reference inquiries is an asset
