Your Opportunity:
Make a difference in the lives of children and families by joining the team at Alberta Children’s Hospital Unit 3. Unit 3 is a 27 bed unit accepting patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations on Unit 3 can include general pediatric medicine, neuro surgery, neurology, burns, nephrology, and urology. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on Unit 3, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for the above patient population. Opportunities for professional growth include participation on unit based education/safety committees, motivation committees, participation in ACH initiatives, and senior skill certification and knowledge acquisition. You will be provided the opportunity to work to full scope of practice. As the LPN, you will provide ongoing assessment, care, education, and coordination of services to children, youth and families. This includes assessment of physical, psychological, and social needs & planning appropriate interventions. The LPN participates in a multidisciplinary team and works both in an independent and collaborative manner. You will practice in a way that supports family centered care. It is an expectation that the LPN will be a collaborative partner in providing teaching to patients, families, students and other multi-disciplinary stakeholders. Develop your pediatric skills while working in a supportive learning environment. Unit 3 provides a variety of opportunities for growth and learning in a fast paced pediatric environment. Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Participation in ACH unit/hospital based initiatives and committees. Care experience with infants, school age children and adolescents. Experience in pediatric medicine, pediatric surgery, seizure monitoring, nephrology, burns or urology. Previous experience preceptoring and/or orientating new staff. Minimum of 6 months of current experience on Unit 3. Completion or auditing of PALS, immunization, IV initiation, CVC, and/or other applicable pediatric focused courses. Comfort and competence with patient charting. Must convey and demonstrate AHS’ five core values.
Preferred Qualifications:Ability to work under time constraints, within a fast paced changing environment. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of specific children and families. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, time management, problem solving ability and organizational skills. Strong decision making and assessment skills.
